The pitch looks awful, but didn't play too badly given the wet conditions. probably easier to defend on than attack with width though.
  • Interesting stats re the pitch. I believe it has now become a psychological factor for the players. Prior to the Sheffield Wednesday game (the first where the pitch started to deteriorate massively) our home league record read as follows:
    P- 14
    W- 4
    D- 5
    L- 5

Our home record from Sheffield Wednesday onwards reads like this:
    P- 5
    W-0
    D-1
    L- 4

    Food for thought....

Thought it held up alright today. Looked like a swamp against Millwall after all the rain and was a bit bobbly today but expected much worse. Just shows that we can win on this surface. Really important psychological hurdle jumped today.

It plays ok unless it is very wet. Looks terrible though.

Not as bad as Blackpool or Huddersfield IMO. Nice surface to look forward to on Tuesday though at the Amex :-)

Best the pitch has looked since before the Sheff W game.

I went to the darts last week and saw the heat lamps in the North stand goalmouth.

I gather conditions have hindered reseeding efforts. Anyone notice Swansea's stadium appears to have sections of roof that allow sunlight to the pitch - or perhaps its just 'design'

We have sections of roof that allow this too. When you look at the football league show - you see quite a few sick pitches. I think the weather has not been kind, which is the biggest albeit not the only factor.

I thought I saw a set of them yesterday tucked away in between the west and jimmy south stand.

They're on standby for Haynes' next hammy problem .

You think ours is bad .. The Keepmoat Donny: Donny v Swindon looks like it's being played on a pitch made from corrugated rubber

It's true we are not the only club with this problem and you have to take into account the unusually wet weather we had last year I am sure this must have had something to do with the deterioration of the playing surface but there is no doubt it is affecting the game regardless of the fact that both teams are playing on it. Hopefully it will get sorted for next seasonI I would suspect that right now it's too late to do anything to improve it for the last 3 games.

My mate who has been a groundsman for 35 years e-mailed the club enquiring as to why the pitch was in such a bad state and they replied it was because of the bad weather!

Leeds will be in for a shock next week after seeing the great condition of Elland Road on television.

Did they have different weather to us then?

There are some terrible pitches around the country, Doncaster's is almost completely brown and bald, but the Blackpool one is appalling! This is it from February, and it's probably got worse since...

You could really smell the mud and grass yesterday. Anyone else smell it?

It isn't a carpet but plays better than it looks as long as it isn't too wet.

Surely it's only a matter of time before we go back to so called "plastic pitches". You look at Saracens new stadium. Over there they are playing professional rugby on a surface that needs no upkeep whatsoever, never wears and yet acts completely like grass. Yes back in the old days of Boundary Park & Loftus Road being coated in knee grazing plastic, topped with sand it was never going to work, but artificial turf has moved on considerably in the last 30 odd years and it's something we should start to re-consider.

I did wonder why they got the sprinklers out at half time yesterday.

Watching MOTD yesterday, Stoke's pitch is in superb condition, perfect for their slick passing football. Bit wasted really :-)

It was horrible when the sun was out. It was making the mud really shiny.

And not a pigeon in sight. Why? Because the buggers have eaten all the seed!
