Police close ranks and refuse to discuss Millwall fall out

Recent attempts by CAS Trust to engage with Police in particular with reference to review of the actions taken during the recent Millwall visit to SE7, have ended in a response indicating that the police representative is unable to attend such a meeting. A curious use of the English language perhaps unwilling, or told not to, or under pressure from above are more appropriate descriptions. This is despite a previous offer of a meeting to discuss policing, and is thought to be due to involvement by New Scotland Yard in the operation.

    I'm amazed that you're all surprised by this, did you learn nothing from Hillsborough? They will not willingly engage with us because it may cause them to do or say something we can use to hold them or others in the group responsible for their actions. We are just an inconvenience, not a set of people whom they serve, it's intragroup dynamics.

    who said anyone was surprised? We don't have to accept the status quo however, that is part of what Trust style fan representation is about, and the more fans sign up to Trusts that stand up and say no more, the more it is likely we can change things.

    Keep on to the Fans Forum and in particular the Safety Advisory Group as the police have to attend the latter.

    Still not heard from the Palace supervisor BTW. Maybe he's still on holiday.

    Regarding the FOI request which a couple of people have mentioned above, you can read the request and track their reply here at this excellent website. As Razil says, they are supposed to reply by April 17. It is easy to make a FOI request using this website, and it might be worth others doing so, if it takes a different tack to mine, or if someone wants to follow up when they answer mine. We just have to make sure that we request information rather than demand an explanation or make a complaint. But of course people can make a more effective complaint once they have received information.

    Just a thought on this, there's likely to be reference to other meetings in these minutes, and presumably each one has to be requested seperately.

    It does not have to be requested separately, not at all. I have asked for "any and all documentation" relating to the decision, and it is absolutely within my right to get them. ( I know a bit about FOI, we have launched the same website system here in CZ.) I do expect that they will try to avoid replying correctly and that I will have to submit a follow up question. Or someone else can.

    IMO A much more effective way of getting plod to answer for themselves, it is after all legislated. A orchestrated selection of requests would tie them up in knots, they'd soon think twice about their decisions if that were done. The point is, to answer such requests takes time, money and effort (much more than you'd realise) and they have to be answered. Fans groups can be and are ignored.

    The police are rushed off their feet at the minute reading Twitter & Facebook accounts so they catch nasty people saying naughty things about minority groups so lets cut the old bill some slack here.
