How many season ticket holders will we have next season?

We had 11,000 this season. After the poor home form this season do you think that figure will remain stable?

9,500 subject to any takeover or new funds coming in.
  • I would hope it will be similar but expect it to be around 10,000.

I suspect that the economic climate, plus the fact that unless there is a change in the Club's financial situation people will know that tickets will be available for every game, will mean that they can pick and choose their games. My guess is 8,000 plus. I hope that I'm wrong, because the atmosphere certainly suffers when you look around and see all the empty seats.

Informed guess is that we'll have 95 - 99% of the figure at the equivelent time last season.

If that turns out to be the final figure, I make that over 1,200 freebie vouchers on average per match to be available for the 17 non-gold games.

And they will probably be "counted" to inflate the already mythical attendance figures.........

The last couple of home wins may have helped a bit

Whats with the whole mistrust of the attendance figures? Is it that people who have been given complimentary tickets shouldn't count or something??
  • The increase in price won't have helped!

It's no biggy, I just think its hilarious looking around a half empty stadium to be told that the attendance is 20,000. I understand why it is done but it becomes a little more debatable when we see it being used as a tool to inflate attendances for investment purposes as allegedly happened in recent weeks.

I'd expect a similar figure to this year, the last few wins would have cheered most up, also (hopefully) securing Championship Football. If anyone thought we'd honestly do better than we have this year then they were truly deluded.

Yeah 20,000 is 7,000 short of our capacity, so even a crowd like that would leave rows of empty seats dotted about, no real suprise there...........

Funny really because I remember the days of cash on the door when our figures were clearly under done, something to do with tax no doubts.

I can't see why you wouldn't renew - we have had an average season and the financial climate isn't really worse tha last year. So I think more or 11,000 again. Some may drop out some new will appear.
Will Airman have to buy a ticket ths year for the first time in ten years? I hope he knows how to go about applying!

For me its about supporting Charlton Athletic, my team. Whoever owns the club, the state of finances, the players we have, or recent performances arent going to change the fact I support CAFC. Thats why I renewed.

I bought at least one and up to four season tickets in every year I worked for the club, thanks.

I would say the likelihood is that more people will buy later this year, and we will see some decline in sales overall, but not enough to offset the additional revenue from the price increase. The two home wins and especially reaching 54 points was very timely.

The figure just after the deadline last year was 9,200 paid - the final total was not published, to my knowledge, but was probably 11,300 plus comps.

I imagine 2 weeks ago, some people would have held off, worrying about paying more money, to watch 3rd tier football next season. Thankfully that now seems unlikely.

  • I don't think the very poor home form should be underestimated in having an impact on season tickets. There are lots of posters on here that attend a good few away games and that would IMHO significantly colour your view of this season. I'm not suggesting for one moment that finishing mid table is not a very decent achievement given the circumstances but for a lot of fans making the trip to The Valley this season has been at best a chore and at worst a thoroughly miserable experience. Add the current financial squeeze on many families and the small but I think understandable increase in prices into the mix and I can see there being a drop to less than 9500. Could all change if positive news around investment emerges but I suspect that it is doubtfull that there will be movement on that front if indeed it does happen for many months into the new season.
  • I should think spanish tony and michael the manc will be delighted if the figure gets near 9000
The number of ST holding stayaways from home games this season has been obvious - the announced "attendances" fanciful. At these much increased prices many more of them won't renew.
OS claiming that there was a flurry on deadline day - no word on actually how many of us have renewed to date. If they get the price wrong tomorrow, and by that I mean put it up by maybe 10% then very few more will buy, even after the fillip of 2 wins in a week assuring safety. I've only renewed cos the rest of my family have and barclaycard shouldn't charge me any interest.

Nope it's ST holders and comps issued counted whether they come or not.

VOTV april spells out an example from this season

Announcing fanciful figures for 'attendances' just serves to erode the credibility of everything announced 'officially'.

It's just amusing being at a sparsely attended midweek evening match to see the "official" attendance and how it differs from actuality.

I don't remember an "official" attendance being given for Millwall come to think of it.

I think - for good reason - the club announces the attendance based on the tickets distributed rather than turnstile clicks. So, people who bought tickets and don't go and those with seasons that don't attend, are counted. It was very apparent in the table scraping Championship relegation season, hardly a new thing. Molehil conversion syndrome.

For the second season in a row I have bought a season ticket for my son, even though he is away at Uni...foolish me I know, I would like to see a 10 game season ticket 'carnet' book, and I inform the club in advance as to which matches he will be attending.
Season ticket stay aways are not always because the fan is cheesed off.

    Likewise me for my daughter.

I bring someone along with me when I can if she is not around but even for free people often still don't want the ticket!

It might be because they have to sit next to me of course but equally maybe Charlton is not that interesting or attractive to the casual football follower.
