The second annual vote for the new Hall Of Fame is up and running and for the benefit of anyone not aware of this, there are 3 catagories, namely 1981 to the present where you have a choice of John Humphrey, Mark Kinsella and Richard Rufus, 1951-80 with Stuart Leary, Keith Peacock and Mike Flanagan, and pre 1950 Harold Hobbis, Bert Johnson and Don Welsh. Last season, we voted in Bartram, Hales and Mendonca so take a few minutes to cast your votes on https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NPVSTWC. The result will be announced at the Player of the Year Dinner on 5 May.

    It seems that Rufus vs Kinsella is the big battle here, with Welsh and Peacock certs.

    Couldn't vote Humphrey after he told me at chairing cross he would never sign for palace and promptly did. Broke my heart.

    The results of the Hall Of Fame vote were announced at the Player Of The Year Dinner on Sunday and for the benefit of those who were not present, the winners were as follows :

    Don Welsh triumphed in the Pre 1950 catagory with a massive 82% majority. Keith Peacock did almost as well in the 1951-80 category with 70%. The 1981- Onwards section was much closer and Richard Rufus scraped home with 47% of the vote and only about 30 more votes than Mark Kinsella.

    The plan is that the name of the winners will be commemorated on a permanent honours board and the Fans Forum are in dialogue with the club as to where it should be situated. This is the second annual vote and the 3 names above now join messrs Bartram, Hales and Mendonca in the Hall Of Fame.

    The names of Bert Johnson, Stuart Leary and Mark Kinsella who each finished in second place will be carried forward to next years vote and joined by 6 new names. Any idea who you would like to see included next time ? We made it a rule that nobody will be considered until at least 5 years after their playing days with Charlton are over, so I think that a certain Chris Powell should be in the frame, along with maybe Johnny Summers, Mike Bailey etc ? Lets have some feedback please

    The tricky thing is whether to honour longevity or quality, i.e. should we honour players who were with us for ages, e.g. Gritt, Berry or those who were brilliant, but for a shorter time, e.g. Firmani.

    Eddie Firmani should on the 1951-1980 list, has to be the best football that ever played for this club when you look at his record in this country and Italy.

    My nominee for the Hall of Fame.
    Let's not forget John Hewie, a playing career of over 500 appearances (including 4 as goalkeeper when Mike Rose was unavailable through injury) in 17 years at The Valley.
    19 caps for Scotland, they had a half-decent side in those days, and how many Charlton players have played in the World Cup Finals as John did in Sweden in 1958.
    In his later games for Scotland, it is said that he roomed with an up and coming youngster, Denis Law.
