Kent Senior Cup

6 nil win with 4 for Smudge. Wonder if a couple of lads have got into contention for Saturday.

Yes 7-1, their keeper had a mare and their right back made Solly look like a giant. Feely, Cook and an own goal provided our other scorers.

Without any silly answers about us being in kent, does anyone know why we enter this rather than the London senior cup?

To give the development squad a chance to play against men's and in a competition with a trophy at the end

If that was a reply to my question, why in Kent cup, not london cup though?

I believe it's because Charlton are affiliated with the Kent F.A. and have been for many years we are also affiliated with the London F.A. so not sure if we have been invited and declined to take part in theirs.
  • The beer was £2 a pint, 48 different real ales(there was a beer festival there at the weekend and there was a lot left over) with 8 Belgium lagers for those who were that way inclined. You could drink while you watched the game and stand where ever you wanted. It was a really pleasant experience to watch the game, and the football was pretty good as well.

It may be because the big three in London may decide to do the same thing and in the Kent version our boys get to play teams that differ from their usual opponents.

I don't think there's much of a difference between the two cups. Teams like Bromley enter both and there are clubs in Kent proper who enter the London cup instead. Perhaps it's invite only?

The London FA Senior Cup rules of entry are restrictive by my reading of this extract.
'The Senior Cup competition shall be open to all non-F.A. Premier League and non-Football League Clubs at Step 6 and above affiliated to the Association or approved by the Committee'.

The right back for Tonbridge was Henry Muggeridge who played for Charlton in the pre-season game against Tonbridge back in July/ August of last year.

He was tiny, when he was at the post from which feely scored, I said to my mate "Is there any point being on the post, even if he jumps he will only cover half the height of the goal." Then he chested the ball into the net.

Definately worth going and I'm sure much more enjoyable than watching barca v bayern. Very boggly and hard pitch which didn't help the "passers". Not 100% who everyone was but Feely and Morgan both looked very composed . Smith MoM with 4 goals but was helped by some dodgy keeping.

Smith had a good game, but not sure I'd have given him MoM - although he did score 4 as others have said the Tonbridge keeper was shocking - made some very poor decisions for some of the goals, e.g. coming out for balls he was never going to reach first.

I thought Piggott had a very good game as well, as did Azeez and Cook.

If I'd known about the left over ales...

It does make our jibes about a certain stripey club being in Surrey not South London look a bit hypocritical though!

The London FA did invite us to re-enter the London Cup a couple of years ago.

Don't know why it never happened but maybe with the U21 league coming in it was seen as not needed/too many games.

Bromley are the London Senior Cup champions.

    :-)

Both have been going since the 19th century. First Kent Senior cup winners were arsenal.
