Danny Haynes - New contract ?

The Sun

"Striker Danny Haynes is set to become the first Charlton player to sign a new deal - and survive a summer clear-out by boss Chris Powell"

If true would be pleased with this. His injury frequency is a concern but when fit is a real plus.

Can't say we really missed him at the end but love his pace on as a sub but don't think he'll be a regular starter , his feet are sometimes too quick for his brain

The club clearly think they can sort out the injury issue. Signing him is a no brainer if that is the case.
  • Same story also appears in "the Mirror" so must be true!!

It's all about Danny's fitness not his ability. If he can stay fit he's a real asset. If he has yet another stop start season then having him on board is sadly a liability which a club in our financial position cannot afford. I really hope that our treatment room staff can manage his fitness levels. Glad he's signed. Fingers crossed.

Not for me .. misses too many chances (as well as too many games), the 'sin' that Wright-Phillips is always accused of, and is often running too fast to nowhere. He has been usurped by Harriott. Any spare cash should be spent on a genuine striker if Obika and Fuller are not to be around next year AND if Smith is not deemed good enough to be retained

I wonder if its pay as you play or structured so the basic is low and he's heavily rewarded for playing.

Obika on season long loan would be great too. In regards of Haynes, I'm guessing that his absence from the side has been about getting him right for next season.

Should be at least 3 years - he has proven himself 100% and the Board shouldn't play about with one year extensions.

My lad and I used to watch Danny at Ipswich - as we were involved in local footie, we couldn't get to the Valley on Saturdays. My lad commented in one game, 'Haynes is quick dad but he needs to remember to take the ball with him when he takes off on his runs!'. Pleased to say Danny has come good - he was a super sub at Ipswich and then sold on but we always knew he had it.
He's shown that he can shoot with both feet, has electric pace and forces defences to sit deeper, creating space in so doing. His pace and Kermo's magic would be a serious concoction up front. Delighted he's staying on!

    "Summer clear out"?

Lots of players out of contract and one or two possible cash deals. I think we'll see 8-12 players leave.

I'm not sure that constitutes a clear out, but it's quite significant.

Sound like journo speak but if the rumours that the money is back in the room are true I wonder if we are on the verge of another night of the long knives ala at the end of SCP's first half season albeit I hope on a lesser scale.

Big IF of course but if Mr Cash is back in the game it could well be.

We also seem to have a bigger squad than most judging on the unscientific method of looking at the squad list on the back of the programme.

Slightly misleading in that we have a lot of young ex-academy players but still a big squad.

There have been various comments that Haynes issues are partly in his head. Somebody reported on here that he is alleged to be a bit of a skiver re training. But I am sure that if we do keep him, CP believes he can manage such issues.

I am not sure, myself. He has scored some fine goals for us, but went badly missing against the Wall. In Shittus pocket when he had the pace to leave him for dead.

We'll always include youth players though, whereas we won't for the opposition and vice versa when away? I haven't got a programme for years though, so that's an unscientific guess as well.

Spoke to him last night and said he's due to report back to SL in June so seems as though the Sun is on the ball.

I also asked him how his body was standing up ...amid guffaws from the others on the table which promoted me to rephrase the question .He said he's doing fine and THINK he said he has a specialist hammy doc who sorts a dedicated regime for him but that might have been the effect a bottle of white wine had on my memory.

Anyway, Danny looked pretty fit to me !

Its another Anyinsah situation, great on the pitch but rarely there. If the club think they can sort his hammy's out then yes, otherwise no.

I put the Millwall game down to him not being fully fit. There were opportunities that a sharp Haynes would have made much more of.
