Tough summer for out of contract players?

I get the impression a lot of clubs are anxious to trim their squads and reduce their wage bills in light of the new regulations being introduced. I think a lot of players will struggle to find a new club and if they do the wages might take a considerable hit.
Clubs might hold the upper hand this summer once the reality kicks in.

Prem clubs will continue to offer silly money but league clubs will be cutting their cloth.

financial fair play rules in the FL will mean there's only a certain amount of cash to spend, could be some decent bargains about

Could be the start of (non prem) players wages returning to reality

Hopefully will make players realise how much they need employment and cut their wages to find a club.

The past two or three close seasons have been tough for British football pros looking for new clubs/work and it's getting tougher. Smaller squads and look at the number of foreigners now playing in the Championship, Nationwide and even down as far as the Blue Square. Conversely, many Conference teams are gradually going fully pro but often with low wages .. low as in a mere 15-30 grand a year or even less
  • Will be interesting to see how it pans out. I think in League 1 & 2 where there are generally fewer larger clubs and not the same pressure from relegated Prem teams with much larger budgets (Wolves the exception!) there will be a significant swing back to reality in wages. In the Champ there will still be Prem relegated clubs paying over the odds for a quick return and the Forests & Leicesters splurging on a gamble of promotion so maybe not so pronounced a change...maybe just more Man City stadium sponsorship type deals done to hide the real losses. Maybe I am just a synic but bet there are plenty of loop holes to exploit if clubs chose to.
