car help

dunno if anyone can help me or knows a reliable, cheap mechanic, i just topped up my oil in my fiat punto sport 1.2 16v, using 5w 40 full synthetic as recommended by halfords, since the change, my car has started shuddering when idle and soundin like a tractor, it also seems to have lost some power... if any one knows why please help

maybe call Halfords and ask them what they think the cause might be?

Check you haven't dislodged an ht lead and it's only firing on 3 cylinders.

Or spilled some oil down a plug hole.

You only have to run over an Italian to top up the oil on a Fiat.

FIAT ... Fix It Again Tony .. sounds like plugs/leads as said above
  • Are you sure that you needed more oil and if so have you only topped up to the required level. At my garage in Gravesend, it is not uncommon for people who don't know about cars, to just pour oil into the engine without regard to how much. The engine should only be topped to the correct level

Fix it again tomorrow sounds better.

And as valleyveteran said have you overfilled it?

Could be the crankshaft sensor. My rover had that go a month back and there was inconsistent losses of power when driving/idle.
