So it is going to be quite a hands on role then? "Must be good with heights"... :-DAirman Brown said:The maintenance man has been made redundant

I don't know, but this was always a likely outcome from Bradshaw's position being created, as I said at the time. There was too much overlap between the job spec and the existing post.Robbo on the wing said:

I don't see what a facilities manager would do that the bloke already there does.
It stinks of a job for the boys turn out.
Of that I am pretty certain.0 -
for all we know, a Facilities Manager, a 'responsible, named person', could be a requirement under Health and Safety legislation or for insurance purposes.0
-
Of course. Previous boards have never created a position such as a FM with some of the criteria you mention.Valiantphil said:and the successful candidate is............................
A director's friend/son/sister / nephew/ neighbour - or combination of these......... etc etc etc.
Just a shame there wasn't a book running at that time as a lot of (now former) employees would've cleaned up.
Allegedly.0 -
Facilities Manager. Is that just newspeak for caretaker?0

You are spot on, add another 2 or 3 employees to the FM to do the tasks the current maintenance manager undertakes and then work out the costings.
For a club with limited funds they are about to have even less, I feel it is someone trying to make a name for themselves by the way of change and at the expense of the club.

Facilities Mangers salary range from £20K to £150K not to bad for a caretaker
The Heads of Security
The Cleaning Manager
Chief Engineer
Catering Manager
Front of House manager
all report to the ----------------------Facilities Manager.
or they have a broad portfolio mine is over 600 buildings.
@ the £20k salary range its really an "office manager"

Are you sure those two people are happy with you telling the world about private aspects of their lives?Airman Brown said:The maintenance man has been made redundant and Mick is reduced to three days a week and will only be responsible for overseeing matchday and related issues, not the stadium, so I guess that's how it's funded. I don't think the distribution of senior management roles in a business as public as Charlton can be said to be private life - indeed the thread is about that because a post that impacts has been advertised. In fact there is more I could say by way of explanation, but that would cross the line in my opinion.Stu_of_Kunming said:

There is also some irony in the question, given the extensive debate - much of it wholly erroneous - about the circumstances of my departure from Charlton on here. Hopefully I will be in a position to set that record straight before long.0 -
Airman... I might be interested in this one, although can I ask if you know what the salary brackets are for 'Grade 2'.0
-
I would think a H&S qualification would be high on the list of requirements of a Facilities Manager, as would a good knowledge of various legal requirements that are the responsibility of the Facilities Manager, it is a pretty essential part of a lot of business's, but then I would say that as it's what I do!0
-
I've been looking to start a career as a martial-arts based crimebuster. This role may be ideal cover as long as I can maintain a mild-mannered disposition, which should be possible now my medication has been increased.
I'm also looking for a cat-based sidekick who may have to do a lot of the actual crimebusting, if anyone knows of one.0 -
May I suggest you don't waste your time and effort, although your application would assist employment law.Im_Jordans_Cousin said:Airman... I might be interested in this one, although can I ask if you know what the salary brackets are for 'Grade 2'.

More loyal staff booted out. Oh joy unbounded. But maybe this time around we're paying our bills - unless you know different!0

Pretty certain? Would (can?) you elaborate?Robbo on the wing said:I don't see what a facilities manager would do that the bloke already there does.

The maintenance man is senior management? Really? How many people knew about the reduction in Mick's hours before you made it public?Airman Brown said:

I have worked there carrying out maintenance both planned and reactive.
The bloke at the helm at the moment is doing a sterling job without the finances that are required.
There is a lot of equipment held together from the day the new valley opened.
Is there a business sponsoring Charlton that want a piece of the action?
0 -
Ditto what Robbo on the wing says, my company has been working at The Valley for years and some of the kit we maintain is on its knees but lack of money means they will not repair/replace it.
The guy they have laid off was doing the best he could with limited funds, the new person who is going to replace him is in for a shock.0 -

So I'm assuming by Robbo's subtle inference that Andrews want to take a bit of control eh?0

Not the way I read it but Robbo is being rather obtuse, (no offence).WSS said:So I'm assuming by Robbo's subtle inference that Andrews want to take a bit of control eh?
I agree with him that the maintenance man who has been made redundant was a very long server and hard working servant to the Club having to make do, as is the case with the other stadium and grounds staff, with old equipment and minimal investment.
Good luck to him and to whoever gets the FM job. The job may not quite be what it said on the tin.

With respect I doubt if there are many people on here who don't work or haven't worked at the club or been a director and could tell you who this person is. I haven't named him/her and it's hardly a massive invasion of privacy if people don't even know the person's name.Stu_of_Kunming said:

As for Mick, he and I go back a very long way. But do you think the club could really keep secret that his public-facing responsibilities had changed?0 -

John the maintenance manager left yesterday and soon will start work in the same role at a Premiership club, ironically the people responsible for his redundancy only made the Championship.
I wish him well.0 -
