Oh good, I look forward to reading this positive thread full of interesting facts.0

Is he still there? Might as well be.Airman Brown said:Prothero arrived in mid August, about the 15th. It was claimed he would start work on August 1st, but he was on a cruise at the time, I believe. Or maybe a private boat.

I met him (abeit briefly) at the Dagenham friendly - seemed a really down to earth guy, approachable and friendly - cant comment on his workings at the club but to meet and greet he seemed a genuine enough guy0

out of interest, if we signed a player that (excluding of injury), that in his contract only available for say 30% of our fixtures, yet was taking up 150-200k of the wage bill (partially contributed from your ST contributions), wouldn't you find that strange ?DRF said:Oh good, I look forward to reading this positive thread full of interesting facts.
Prothero is a strange one. A part-time worker rarely seen by staff apparently, highly paid apparently, a director of a company in the most public of industries, yet keeps the lowest of profiles, rejects invites to Supporters Meetings, has no job title or contact details on the club website etc, and no real idea what his remit is.
Could be a very nice bloke, could be great at his job, could be value for money. Haven't a clue.
Just yet another bizarre circumstance of not having a clue of the rationale of our owners / senior employees in wanting to take so a clear un-communicative presence in an industry built around establishing unity with its 'customers'.

For all I know, most of the staff who work for the club could only work 5 hours a week. As far as many fans seem to think players only work on a Saturday.
And you over-use of the word apparently is exactly what is strange about this whole situation and the constant need to give opinion based on apparently's.0 -
so we dont know what he does, so presume he does nothing? Thats how it comes across from many on here.0

I thought he negotiated the commercial aspects of the club (sposorship, shirt deals etc.) In that respect as we have a sponsor (unlike some clubs) that is ethical (unlike some clubs - Wonga related), we also have a nice kit - which this year appears to be in the right colour! I think that he is doing ok. Obviously I don't know the rest of his remit, but at the same time I dont really know what Varney or Kavanagh did to compareAFKABartram said:

Let's face it, he probably does what most of us would if we worked from home one day a week with no evident boss and nothing much to do eg not a lot.0

I wonder if he comes on here in those quiet moments. If he does I wonder which name he uses. My guess is its nla.Cardinal Sin said:Let's face it, he probably does what most of us would if we worked from home one day a week with no evident boss and nothing much to do eg not a lot.

Surely if we are strapped for cash this guy would be one of the first out of the door?0
-
Isn't the value of the Andrews deal less than £150,000? Isn't Protheroe earning above that? If his job is commercial what else has he done to earn back his salary? Before anyone challenges me on the figures, they are picked up from CL somewhere and may be complete rubbish as well as speculation.0
-
There is currently a large number of threads and comments from people with strong and forceful opinions based on rumours and 'apparentlys'. In this case, nobody really knows what Prothero does so how can you have an opinion on whether he is good or bad at it?ShootersHillGuru said:

I presume he is the 'lead' club manager to appear at the forthcoming tribunals with ex- staff in dispute with the club. If not him, then who? I expect he will have all the appropriate procedures nailed down, all the paperwork sorted, and he will be doing so in accordance with the law and with club employment policies. That would be a reasonable expectation for the boss man, especially if he is on £150k a year.0
-
To be fair, if we are so strapped for cash that we have only one striker and one keeper, it's not unreasonable to wonder what we are getting for this guy's salary.0

How does anyone even know his salary? Or is it just guess work?0

Don't really want to get into this, but Andrews were signed up by Steve Kavanagh and Dave Archer. I understand the deal has been renewed for a lower amount, not sure who by.Chrispy51 said:

To be clear, that is no criticism of the sponsor whatsoever. Seem like good people to me and, as stated, a lot better than Wonga, etc.
150k part-time plus bonus (source Richard Murray) is good money for choosing the kit, I'd say, but I concede he should be the expert at that.0 -
Thanks for clearing that up ABAirman Brown said:

Maybe the plan is to use his salary to pay the out of court settlements so doesn't even have to do that? The chances are the court hearings won't fall on his working day anyway.seth plum said:I presume he is the 'lead' club manager to appear at the forthcoming tribunals with ex- staff in dispute with the club. A question, if the club offered an out of court settlement, would the claimant have to accept it? Or could the claimant insist on their day in court as it were?0
-
In all seriousness, his salary and working arrangement must be part of the overall deal with Nike? A club in our financial situation simply couldn't afford to pay anyone the equivalent of £12,000 a week, let alone someone whom we are left to guess what they do because there's no obvious output? A contractual arrangement would explain why he hasn't been sacked or pushed out before now.0
-
Actually, I think £150,000 pa for one day a week would be nearer £15,000 a week. Fuller and Obika.0
