Skin Problem

Feel a bit daft posting this, but you never know. For the past couple of weeks have had upper body and face sore patches, feels like really bad sunburn. Eases from time to time but keeps coming back. Can't wear a seatbelt and it is starting to get me down. Have tried my gp, have tried a pharmacist, everyone just shrugs and tells me it will go away. No sign of any rashes or spots, just very sore.
Anyone had any experience of this of have any ideas?
Long shot, but thought it worth a go.

    Could be stress related.

One of my daughters sometimes suffers quite severe eczema like symptoms and the quack suggested stress could be the cause.

Seek a second opinion from another GP. I wouldn't even look for medical advice on a medical specific forum, let alone a Charlton one.

i know it's not actually sunburn but if it feels like sunburn, have you tried using any aftersun products?

maybe when you get in from work have a shower then slap a load on (as if you are burnt) and see how you get on, can't see it making it any worse...

No diet change but have had a very stressful year. Don't feel stressed though.

This. As a long shot however and I know it sounds silly but have you changed soap powder or shower gels or deodorant recently?

Not looking for medical advice. Trying to see if anyone has ever had the same symptoms.

Your description of your symptoms seems similar to what my daughter has experienced. Hence my comment.

    I'm not giving medical advice.

Thanks Len. My comment re medical advice not aimed at your post. I appreciate what you said and it has got me thinking as my wife has sad the same. Have lost my Father and best mate since February and my son going through a messy divorce. I always think I handle it , maybe I don't.

In a completely non-medical view, i would rule out the washing powder / change of soap, certain clothes aspect as they would lead to a more visual outcome in a rash.

My immediate thought Masicat was that it sounded a stress-related infliction, though no idea what the solution would be.

My other thought is have you had any infections in the months before it began, particularly respiratory? I had a quite nasty chest and lung infection earlier in the year. About 6 weeks later i flared up all over in spots. Called guttake psoriasis apparently, and its triggered by throat, respiratory infections. Bloody horrible it was, and took about 3 months to clear up.

Lastly, have you taken any antibiotics / different medication recently ? May be a reaction to that (I also had an allergic reaction to antibiotics. Bucket of laughs this year has been...)
  • I suppose this can stay under General Charlton if it is stress-related?

Hope it clears up soon, Masicat...
  • It's a bit naughty if your GP is not taking this seriously. Back to GP and kick him/her a bit or see a different GP. A lot more needs to be established. E.g.Did you have temp. sore throat etc? What size are the patches, do they heal and new ones form, are they more on one side than the other, do they go white if you press them and release pressure, do they form blisters, do they itch as well as hurt, have you been in contact with anyone with a skin problem, are they and scaly or weepy, have you been anywhere abroad recently, are there little blood spots in your bed. That'll do for now, off to the GP with you and don't let them fob you off.

Seen this. It does appear I am not alone, but nobody seems to know what it is. Am considering stress now and will get back to see a proper GP this week.
  • If all else fails demand to be referred to the Dermatology Department at St Thomas's. The best team in the country. I speak from personal experience a few years ago.

Often, we are more stressed than we realise. It's only later on, when you're totally relaxed, that you actually realise.

Google Urticaria and see if it looks familiar. Anti-histamines might help.

Have had a second opinion. Appears I have a nerve problem and have had a blood test and been put on a course of tablets. Went back and refused to see the original Doctor. Saw another one who knew what I had and has now put my mind at rest.
    Thanks all for your input.

I've had the same - really tender patch on skin which looks normal but is really sensitive. It has gone now but wifey seems to have the same now. We thought it might be something to do with Shingles ??
