Scouting Non League Players
Peterborough made it clear that the non league market was one that they would be actively pursuing in the future, hence they picked up Boyd ( one of ours incidentally), Gayle and Tyrone Barnett.
I get the impression that league clubs are scared to bring in non league players as they cannot give them the time to bed in. If that is the case it is a shame, as financially the league club and non league club could benefit if the player makes it. Apparently, Fraser Franks of Welling is a player that the fans are in no doubt can step up and are resigned to losing him at some stage.

Fraser Franks was released by AFC Wimbledon for a reason. Went to Welling last night and several times last season and he is a solid Conference player. Nothing else.
The only Welling player imo who could step up to league football is Lafayate. Even then I doubt he would cut it in league one let alone the Championship.0 -
Disagree. When the likes of the list below started their careers in non league it goes to show that clubs do look at the lower levels. Sometimes players don't want to move up as they are financially worse off
Chris Waddle
Stuart Pearce
George Boyd
Paul Williams
Stan Collymore
Chris Smalling
John Barnes
Ian Wright

Given I was in attendance with you I pretty much agree with you. However I think that there's a player in the making in franks and think given the right coaching he could become a pro at a lower league club. Maybe.Clem_Snide said:Fraser Franks was released by AFC Wimbledon for a reason. Went to Welling last night and several times last season and he is a solid Conference player. Nothing else.

Does Smalling count as Maidstone? Or his Man U predecessor David Sadler?
EDIT: Just seen Smalling mentioned already by Shirty above.0 -

I think Franks will get picked up at some point by a big Conference side, probably who gains promotion this season.Clem_Snide said:Fraser Franks was released by AFC Wimbledon for a reason. Went to Welling last night and several times last season and he is a solid Conference player. Nothing else.

Kurtis Guthrie also could step up imo.
Welling have a number of very good young players (17-19 yo's), who are on the fringes and will break through in the next year or two. Jamie Day knows what he is doing...a very good coach.
They were excellent vs Forest Green Rovers, whose playing budget is £1million a season, Welling's is, erm, probably around 10% of that.0 -
Hard to argue with that statement. Every chance that he could get "picked up", too!falconwood_1 said:

There are a lot of clubs in the Conference and elsewhere that have spent heavily on their squads and are going nowhere, I was surprised no-one picked him and his team in the summer.Eddie Firmani said:

Dean Sinclair. Pardew really put me off non-league shopping for a while0

In recent years Hamlet have supplied Dickson to Charlton, a player to West Ham and a player to Huddersfield, so it does show league are looking at the non leagues and taking a punt0

"The Eagles have strong links with the Isthmian League Premier Division outfit, with the likes of Ian Wright, Alan Pardew, George Ndah, Leon Cort and Quade Taylor going on to represent Palace having previously played for Dulwich Hamlet".

Who was the guy we got from Tooting & Mitcham... Smith someone?0 -
I was broke and used to watch local side Woking early 90s. I recommended Tim Buzgalo to the club and got a free ticket to a match at the Valley. Shortly after Buzgalo got a hat-trick vs W Brom in the 4-1cup win but soon after did his cruciate. I wonder had he been fit whether the club may have taken a punt?0
