Ideas To Win A Derby Match

In recent years we seem to have lost the ability to compete and beat our nearest and dearest in a Derby match (Brentford , Welling & Leyton Orient aside , you know who i mean) so what is the answer ?

Play more academy lads , with a passion and more of an affinity with the club?

As Brian Clough famously did before a European Cup final let the lads go out on the lash the night before?

No win / no fee ( ie wages) if we lose?

What is the answer, how do we 'get the magic ' back, and avoid a weeks worth of ribbing from friends, family & workmates?

We could play Charlton - they're really shit when it comes to derby games.
  • Score more goals than them.
  • Maybe tell them that they're just another team in the League like Leicester or Middlesbrough - Maybe the derbies are hyped up too much and the players are getting too over anxious to impress rather than going out and doing what we know they can do
  • Swap shirts
  • When the fixtures come out a derby game should be the first thing people look for, and this goes for the whole club, not just the players, everyone should be up for it.

If anything needs to be done or added to stimulate any of the above something is wrong.

  • Get the same caterers who prepared Tottenham's infamous dodgy lasagna to prepare Millwall's pre-match meal.
  • Derbies should be banned .

    End of.

This. The supporters bottle it as much as the players do in this occasions.

the team turns up and gets a get of bollox between them
  • Just heard someone on Five Live say that as soon as it was known Van Persil was out, they knew Utd would lose.

Compared with all the £ms back up forwards they have, and with Moyes' years of experience at the top level, it's now obvious we NEVER stood a chance without Yann !

Puts Sat into a bit of perspective maybe ?

In fairness, as soon as I heard Yann was out and that Pigott was starting my optimism (which was quite low anyway), dropped by about 50%.

  • While more passion may have been nice on Saturday, players passing to each other, and moving into space to receive the ball would be more important.

If he didnt for Millwall, why would he for QPR?
  • Our crossing and free kicks were atrocious on Saturday, maybe they could spend some time practicing them before Burnley.
  • don't let the players know its a derby game.

How many times did their keeper come out and catch the ball? After two, surely you should be keeping it away from him?

I think Welling United are our whipping boys as far as derbies go. Have you seen our record it's top notch?
