Oldest Charlton kit you still use

What's the oldest piece of kit you got from Charlton that you still use? Is was thinking about this as I dried off at the swimming pool using my 1987 Charlton towel. It's a bit rough but still works. We also use a Midland Bank bag from the mid 80s to carry our stuff to the Valley.

Though a reproduction I have the home shirt with white pin stripes.
  • I've brought all the Charlton home kits since the Viglin one dating back to 1998 - Dont wear them anymore though, at the end of each season the latest one joins the rest in the wardrobe

Sort of related, I have the blue 89 away shirt in XL. Anyone want to trade it for L as too big for me.
  • Not Charlton, but I still have my orange, stiff plastic shin pads by Bukta, circa 1966. I've requested that they are buried with me when I go.

I still wear my Mesh yellow away top occasionally, normally on holiday.

S0mehow the programme from my first match in .....er.....March '51 has survived the various house tidying purges made by both my old mum and my lovely missus, as has the hefty wooden rattle my dad bought for the '46 Cup Final. I have been known to take it to matches although I was once refused entry to The Valley because of it when I failed a 'bag search' a few years ago and told that it could be used as an 'offensive weapon'!

How much did you pay (and have to drink) for the Kent 20/20 thing?

I had AFKA's shirt too. It wasn't a match shirt, it was leisure wear. I wore it to school on a dress down day. I should've been bullied, frankly.

Interesting that the inscription on the badge is The Valley 1991, although we never got back until the following year. You can sense the willing it to happen.

Back to the Valley 1992 home shirt
  • I still have one with "The Woolwich" as sponsors. Must be 25years old or so I would guess. I was a kid at the time so too small for me now but give it a few years and my son will be in it.

I wonder if any of the kit used by the lads of the East Street Mission survives?
    Just think...an ESMFC shirt from 1905 !
  • 10. Sid O'Linn's old shirt

As first team kit shirts were not swapped in those days I would think that your shirt was also worn by Tommy Brown, Charley Purves, Tommy lumley , Riley Cullum, Seamus D'arcy, Dudley Forbes, Charley Vaughan and also Benny Fenton & Billy kiernan-a fine piece of history you have there Henry .

    1950 matchworn shirt.

But that only counts if you use it. Do you ever wear it?

Of course not, it belongs in a museum.

If only we had such a thing : - )
  • I still have the Charlton Home and Away shirts from 1988. As I've lost so much weight recently they are the only shirts that fit me now so I've started wearing the red one to home games. the away shirt (the grey one) is probably much more difficult to replace so I'm just wearing the red one until it falls apart.

Doesn't come close to Henry's 1950s shirt though.
  • Wow AFKA, your shirt, wallpaper and KCCC framed pic look just like my hallway !

Snap. It's in the oldest son's cupboard. He needs about five more years to grow into it.

To answer the question I regularly use play tennis in a variety of old shirts: white Viglen one with the black and red stripe, white Viglen from follwing season, yellow 99/2000 shirt and some early 21st century home shirts. I gave away the ecru one in Indonesia and also once had the snazzy one pictured above - I'd love to still have those. I think the ecru shirt is my favourite ever Charlton shirt.

Good idea...I know there will be a few at my funeral that will want to give me a kicking so excuse me if I nick your idea :-)
