Just checked the post and I have recieved a free ticket from the club for the Derby match on the 14th of December. This is due to me not re-newing my season ticket this season., although I do still attend games when possible.

Just wondered if anyone else has had one for this game or others?

Nice touch Charlton............

  • My Dad got one too! He was well chuffed as he doesn't have the funds at the moment to attend a lot of games.

I got one too as I moved up to Sheffield for uni, might try and get back for this one or give it to family, nice idea by the club.

could potentially be a decent crowd then, depending how many they've sent out.
  • My dad got one too, and he only gave up being a s/ticket holder as he cant afford it, so chuffed to bits. Should be a good day as the stadium should have a lot of old s/ticket holders there, which would imply they are fans rather than the footy for a fiver brigade which brings in all sorts that in my experience barely watch the game!
  • Me too. I'm working though, so can't make the game. East C if anybody wants to collect (SM1 area)

Is it a lottery or have all lapsed ST holders got one?

    Well done to the club

My nephew got one the other day. It's his old season ticket seat and he's delighted. Nice touch by the club, with a good marketing reason behind it...get them interested again in time for a half-season ticket for Christmas.

That's not meant to sound cynical. It's a good idea if a few are able to now buy again, but also a nice thing to do and should see a good home gate/support before Christmas even if no one is then tempted.

  • I had a ST for my eldest daughter, this season we changed the ST to my youngest daughters name, as the eldest didn't want to go anymore and we have today got one through the post.

Good shout, sounds like a great idea to me.

I'm sure there will be some come on and slag it off but any new ideas should be welcomed if it helps swell the valley both now & potentially in the future.

This is actually a fantastic idea. It means that they can give tickets away at a discounted/free rate without annoying existing ST holders..

    Good on the club.

A large number if not all lapsed holders will be getting one I believe as part of a number of initiatives

i have a season ticket but cant make the game so it has all been for nothing....
  • Think next season I'll give the S/T a miss and get a booklet of 4, go to the "Fiver" game, get a free ticket from the club and ponce the free tickets out of my friends ST books.

    Nah, not really.

maybe they should give all us paying s/t holders a free pint in the ground before the match to make up

Wouldn't be very fair if they only gave a free ticket to some but not all. My dad got one today but I didn't. Hoping it turns up tomorrow.

Nice touch by the club though and I'm sure they will benefit from the extra beer money / programme sales etc.

I had 4 STs 10/15 years ago so I look forward to my tickets. I have moved house at least 3 times since then though !
  • Bet I don't get one even after all those many miles I travelled in the 90s. It's my birthday on
    the 15th too :-(

It also guarantees another big crowd for our prospective new owners :-)

Good way to out all the part time plastic glory boys who have given up on Chris Powell and Charlton. All should be banned from CL immediately as not "proper" fans.

Good targeted attempt to win back some fans and boost the gate for what is traditionally one of the worst weekends of the season attendance wise.
