Tv's have come down so much in price these days , you can get a half decent one for under £400 from Argos.

trying to convince the wife we need a 3D tv any ideas on a good un, I need 4 glasses minimum preferably 60

Don't bother mate 3d television is a total gimmick unless you get an 80 inch monster, the glasses will give you a headache too and cost a fortune. You will feel murderous when they break as well
Go high end plasma by a decent manufacturer Panasonic and Samsung are good value and John Lewis are surprisingly good for price and give extended warranties as standard. Then get a soundbar with wirless surround sound and you are rocking0 -
