cheers DJDD, always felt i've missed out not seeing the Sopranos.

Looking at this thread, you see what a great selection of diverse stuff Channle 4 brought to the screen that the other main channels would never of touched.

    Pheonix Nights : )
  • Test Match cricket, when it moved to C4 I thought they'd screw it up with ads between the overs and a heavy commercial overtone to it, instead they added lots of new features and made the BBC Test match product look what it was: stale, boring and well past its prime. A shame they lost the contract, but Sky bid more and C4 never made the revenues they wanted/or expected and couldn't afford to get anywhere near Sky's offer.

Besides that there were loads of good programmes that broke the mold of British TV - from the Tube, Brookside, to the comedy and imported TV. Many great series were taken up by C4 from Hill Street Blues onwards. Definitely it has had an overwhelmingly positive effect on British culture, and was the first TV station to be aimed at younger people who weren't patronised or fed prole fodder TV as on BBC1/2 and especially ITV.
