Rome

Can anyone recommend a decent hotel to stay in?

Only going for a long weekend so want somewhere central enough to see all the sites but not too expensive!

  • Hotel Accedemia is right by Trevi Fountain and you can walk to all attractions, see the Pope,
  • As i was saying, about £100 a night but you get a reasonable breakfast and it is clean and tidy. Rooms are a bit small but very nice. Would go again just for its position. Do the round Rome hop on, hop off bus tour. goes to all the spots and has an english commentary. Also did a day trip to Pompei, via Napoli on the train. Long day but well worth it.
PS everybody speaks English so no problem to converse with the locals

  • Stayed at the Hotel Valadier near to Piazzo Del Popolo. Nice hotel, may be a tad more than you want to pay.
Recommend going to Villa Borghese (can book in advance).

Worth a try. They have budget rooms in a quite posh hotel. Basic problem is that the good central hotels that don't charge a fortune get very booked up. Everywhere is walkable from here. A good alternative is to try some apartments. You can at least cut down the food costs. Food is indifferent and pricey.
  • Stayed at the Caesar House Residenze when I went there recently. Highly recommend it. Small hotel - in some ways more a B&B - with really helpful staff. Also perfectly located for the sites - literally just around the corner from the Coliseum.

Hotel Miami 3 star about 5 min walk from the station, suggest you get a bus/metro pass. http://hotelmiami.com. Also go to trip adviser for reviews of the hotels. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g187791-d232883-Reviews-Hotel_Miami-Rome_Lazio.html. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g187791-d203153-r154276381-Accademia_Hotel-Rome_Lazio.html

I stayed in a Boscolo on Via Veneto. Perfect location and I got a special offer. Worth a look
  • We stayed in the Hotel Pantheon. Funnily enough, right next to the Pantheon, think it was about 100 euro per night
  • Quality hotel, quality location, quality price

Not quite as good, but only 100 yards up the road, cheaper

Both in the best location going in my view.

  • Rome is superb, if it's only a long weekend get there as early as possible and leave as late as possible.

Just come back. You have been given some excellent advice here.
I can reiterate that it is worth getting a Metro ticket. They vary, you can buy one for about an hour and a half, a day or maybe even longer; I am sure your hotel can advise.
Rome is as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be. In a lot of the bars you can buy a big bottle of beer for €4.00 or a coffee for about €3.00. Generally price lists are clearly visible, but do not be afraid to ask. Enjoy.

It is my favourite place in Europe. If you've thought about football then let me know and I can help out. Enjoy.

Stay central and you can avoid using the metro. Everything is walking distance and you see so much more of the city that way.
  • Great city, we took the mother-in-law there for her birthday (a few years ago), the wife and her mum went to see the pope while I went to See Lazio v Siena (great game...5-3).
