Just how important is the Yeovil game?

If we lose this and there is no forthcoming investment in new players, then there is only way to go and it isn't up,

    It's worth the same number of points as any of the remaining 28 games (84 left to fight for if my maths are correct). Psychological impact of being in the bottom three may play a part, but I'm confident it won't define our season - we're in December, not May.

    Great if we win, good if we draw.

    Not the end of the world if we lose. SCP does get the best out of a good basic squad with no fire power what so ever. The January sales will define our season - not this result.

    Another doomster & gloomster follow up thread to your previous one 'Has SCP gone as far as he can go?' Eh? I'm quite happy peering through these rose tinted spectacles thanks and I don't have a crystal ball so I'm out. Only 6 comments since February 2012 and 5 of those in less than a week hmmm, that is some hibernation.

    The worry IF we lose on Saturday will be momentum (downwards), lack of players' confidence and the knowledge that we lack any meaningful threat up front. We have lost 4 out of 5 and if that becomes 5 out of 6 where does CP turn for inspiration - after all it's not as if we have game-changers about to return from injury and 'the January window' is just desperate. IMO a boring draw would not be a bad thing at all (although a goal by ANYONE would be most welcome:-)

    I'm seeing it as a must not lose rather than must win. We need to stop our slump sooner rather than later, at the same time we can bring an end to Yeovil's mini-revival.

    On a scale of 0 to 10, where 0 is "What?" and 10 is "More important than life itself" I make it a 1. But, I think, with all due respect, we think of Yeovil as "plucky little Yeovil", and until a couple of months ago would have expected nothing less than a win. A loss will confirm the doom gathering over our perception of who and where we are in the footballing scheme of things.

    It's a 6 pointer, as this team will be in the bottom 6 or 8 with us, but it can never be anything remotely approaching determinative ( or even close to it ) at this stage of the season.

    I think that we will, in any event, take something from the game.

    If we lose then I still think we will be OK if we changed nothing regarding management.

    If we lose AND Chris Powell loses his job (which I think will happen if that is the result), then we are in trouble.

    Whatever happens, we have to stick with SCP.

    Mathematically not very important given, as WSS observes, the number of points left to play for. The game is massive though psychologically. At the very least we need to avoid defeat. A win might just give us some impetus through to the New Year.

    Big game. One point has to be the minimum, but it can't be panick stations yet - we've been through worse than this and whilst this isn't shaping up to be a vintage season I think we'll stay up - Saturday can help that prediction but it can't end it.

    Yeovil will be bang up for this. This is a chance for them to get out of the bottom 3 and that motivation can not be underestimated. We have to be at it from the off. The huish park crowd will also understand the importance and will make a lot of noise.

    Its not season defining but come the end of the season its the results against Those around you that get taking into account more than others and i expect us to be in and around Yeovil around May.



    I just hope we treat this game as season defining as losing will put everyone in a very dark place and one which we may not come out of. Its a massive game.

    When you are hovering above the bottom three, every game is of the highest importance. CP will face them one at a time, we are well up the creek, anybody got a paddle ?

    It's a big game of course, but to call it crucial and season defining is wrong. We have 28 games remaining and our season will be defined by all of them,not just one, especially one before Christmas.

    Psychologically it will give us a big boost to get a win down there, so of course it is important, but no more than that.

    I am confident that we will finish at least six points and at least three places above Yeovil so it's neither a six pointer nor a defining game, in my view.

    Powell is still a relative novice at management and he is still learning, in time he will come up with a system that makes the most out of our squad and we will climb the table just like we did last season.

    We've lost four of five (including two of last seasons Premier League teams, away, and Leeds) the five games before that we won two and drew three. We've only lost by more than one goal twice all season and even though we might have the joint lowest number of goals scored, there are only six sides in the division that have conceded two goals less than us.

    Basically we are a team with poor striking options so we play a very defensive game and against most of the teams in this division that will produce a result, occasionally we come up against a great striker and or a very mean defense and we lose.

    I'm not in the slightest bit worried about where we'll end up or about Yeovil.

    We're a strange team, have been for a while, fully capable of going on a run of losses and then a run of wins. A loss on saturday will not be the be all and end all of our season.

    I have no intention of being in and around Yeovil in May. Unless you mean going past it on the way to Bristol airport for me hols.
