i drove past the old ground the other day and was shocked as i looked up at the buildings that had risen on the site...i knew they were being built but the reality of seeing them hit home...a timely reminder at the start of a new and important season of the fantastic achievement of everybody connected to the club from the directors down in that the valley didn't suffer a similar fate after we were exiled to sellout park...if there comes a time during the season that anybody has any doubts then a few pictures of what the alternative could have been should dispel them...

    A valid point. Sometimes we do need to remember just how far we've come in a very short time, and just be grateful to still have a team/home!

    Agreed.I go past there most days.The stands, terraces, and floodlights were still there around 1999, 8 years after they left.I assume there was land issue problems with Safeways who I think bought the area originally.I wonder if the new flats will have any Wimbledon FC names attached to it , Fashanu Towers?,Hamman House ?

    First away game i went to that, v millwall! Remember it v well, before when they were warming up, brian horne threw the ball (like the way schmeical used to) towards cascarino who was stretching his hamstrings, and it hit him on the bum, was about a 30 yard throw right on the money, as an 7 or 8 year old that was very funny.

    Like LT says, how lucky are we!!

    Interesting piece - Vinny seems to be talking a lot of sense. You just know Posh will take absolutely no notice though and screw Beckham's career for further fame for herself.

    Plough Lane was the first professional pitch i ever played on. Tatty little great, but with great character.

    We'll regret all these prestine wrap around bowls one day....

    AFC Wimbledon fans have launched a campaign to support their return to a stadium in Plough Lane. "Bring the Dons Home" details the reasons the fan-owned club want to return to Merton, with plans for a £16 million ground that will act as a community asset to the area, boosting the local economy and securing the future of the club. The Dons have played at Kingsmeadow since 2002 but have now outgrown what was always supposed to be a temporary measure.

    I remember an evening game there, mainly for the reason that my friend Debbie lost a contact lens on the 'away' terracing. And I found it. Result.

    Council are looking to bring sport back to Merton. Been going in for a while. Will see the end if the dog track

    It's complete guff. Stratford has loads of stadia, but it doesn't rain money there.

    Labour had the idea when they were in government that super casinos were the key to boosting local economies. The plan soon unraveled when it was discovered that the were getting large donations from gaming firms.

    To improve local economies the list starts with transport links, better housing, schools and investment opportunities etc
    You'd have to go a long way down that list before you got to building a stadium for a division two football team.

    The proposals will include around 600 flats, and some local transport improvements will be possible via CIL/s106 funds.
