The story leaked to the SLP didn't mention Americans. It said British Group.
More likely, IMO, that the SLP story about a GB group was leaked by Slater to try and gee up the Americans. Doesn't look like it worked though.

We're all speculating obviously and it's very entertaining, but I don't think anybody is seriously suggesting this level of ignorance.BigRedEvil said:This gets better, so throughout DD no-one thought to look at one of the numerous football sites and see where Charlton were in the PL table?
It is plausible, however, that the Movie played out something like this;
"Shahid Khan, a fellow US Sports franchise owner, pays £200m for Fulham. Somebody suggests to Harris that a much better deal is available. "You can buy Charlton Athletic, who have recently been in the Premier League and are a bigger Club than Fulham with a much better Stadium, for less than 10% of what Khan paid for that lousy franchise Fulham."
"Blimey", says Harris, "that sounds good", ever alert for some easy money and fancying the chance to make Khan look like a numpty.
"What's the catch?" says Harris. "Well, you need to get Charlton promoted and in the meantime you'll need to invest between £5-10m p.a., but they have a brilliant young Manager and a highly successful academy so it should be no problem."
"Let's take a look" says Harris.
And the upshot? Harris concludes that Khan is off his head. He figures that Fulham will spend every cent of TV money et al in a desperate attempt to stay on the EPL gravy train. He smiles as he studies the current Premier League table. Always thought Khan was a dumb ass he thinks to himself as he heads home."
What a circus this is turning into.

Sheffield United will come goodkings hill addick said:Let's be honest the current set up with English Football is insane. Any relegation can almost destroy a club. The current TV deal makes relegation from the Championship to League One a potential disaster. Look at Sheffield United, they were in the Premier League with us in 2007. Relegation from the Premier League (which is virtually inevitable for many of the clubs in it) will leave one year to get back or potential oblivion.

For the record:
I know nothing
I make nothing up
My Dad doesn't know about The Trust or the ACV (unless MOG has told him)
I probably will only get to 2 more games this season
I would happily leave The Valley if it meant we had a future
My wife has gone bananas over the number of photos & shirts etc I have bought over the last 2 years (on here)
I am actually based in Lagos

Politician unhappy with Charlton owners over lack of information on club's future
12:18pm Thursday 12th December 2013 in Sport By Paul Green
A GREENWICH councillor has questioned why the current owners of Charlton Athletic are so reluctant to communicate with the club’s fans.
The Addicks have been strongly rumoured to be on the brink of a takeover, although it was reported yesterday one potential saviour of the financially stricken SE7 outfit, American Josh Harris, had ended his interest in buying the club.
But it is the lack of information coming out of The Valley, including over whether Charlton plan to remain at the stadium in the long-term, which has prompted Woolwich Riverside Councillor John Fahy to enter the debate.
Earlier this week he tweeted: “When is Charlton Athletic going to come clean on it future plans for the club.
“Important for the board to clarify the future of The Valley.”
Explaining his remarks to News Shopper, Cllr Fahy said: “I’ve had some representation from constituents at surgeries about what is happening with regards to the ownership of Charlton.
“I gather from what I’ve heard there is more than one interested party, one supposedly a property developer.
“There seems to be a lot of discussions taking place in secret but very little of it is being revealed in public.
“Clearly the fans are not being kept informed by the owners about what is going on and that is completely unacceptable.”
He added: “There is a strong fan-base at The Valley so why not keep them informed?
“The wider issue for me is that football clubs, including Charlton, are treating fans with contempt.
“They rely heavily on the fans for income but offer little in return in terms of information about what is going on. It isn’t helpful.”
And the Labour councillor, who is also an Addicks fan, is now backing the recently established Charlton Athletic Supporters Trust to play a more prominent future role behind the scenes at The Valley.
“I would certainly support what the Supporters Trust are doing,” he said.
“The only long-term solution is for the club to be taken over by people who have the best interests of Charlton Athletic at heart.”

I'm trying to adopt, with various degrees of success, the Curbs approach of not getting too high with every takeover bid and rainbows end that comes along and not getting too pee'd off when it inevitably fails :-)nth london addick said:back on the 20th of November WIWLB said yanks have walked away after a bigger offer came in,

I am not in the least bit upset. The Zabeel thing washed all that kind of hope away.
I am resolved to the club struggling along, selling to survive, suffering on the pitch, but with the hope that once we're on a bit of an even keel we can build and grow realistically.
I am weary of sitting on the sidelines waiting for salvation, which is certainly why I hope to see the back of rich businessmen. The supporters trust will become the only game in town anyway and we will need to all stick together.

Still not sure what you are saying.
You said the Yanks were never interested and the GB group was made up (I would agree) so who IS interested and who is "on-going"?

I hope that's a joke.Solidgone said:Latest rumour is that the Americans wanted to amalgamate Charlton and Millwall and build a ground on the pen.
I can't get my head around any of this. So is the summing up that the Americans expressed an interest and went through DD. TJ and MS used the SLP to plant a pile of bullshit about a British Property Group making a counter offer whilst DD was going on in order to force the hand of the Yanks. The Americans soon realised how much it'd cost to invest in us to make it worthwhile and that they were being strung along so quickly walked away. There is no other interest and never has been. No chance of any money to spend in January and most of our worthwhile players and staff out of contract next summer.
Yep that sounds like a good investment of£43m£18m. Meanwhile it's costing them a mint to keep the club running but still won't drop the asking price. Someone tell me what I'm missing.0 -
If it smells like bullshit, looks like bullshit, has a sign on top of it that says "pile of bullshit" please post here in the CL Takeover (reality) thread...1
