Would be absolutely gutted if he left. What a class act he is, as a man, and as a manager. Very few clubs have someone in charge who GENUINELY wants to be there and doesn't see where they are as "just another job".2

Fantastic post. This is exactly where I stand.paulsturgess said:Ousting SCP would be a great way to immediately alienate themselves to supporters but as the likes of Tan have shown, a lot of these blokes couldn't really give a monkeys about that.
It's a bit of joke given what he's achieved with us that the poor sod is seemingly in a position where he is still sweating about his job. I don't really get it, I would have thought that we'd be the ones shitting ourselves every time a new job came up in the Prem or Champ as he would be so in demand. He's had a terrible time of it this season in what must feel like a dead end job in football management terms. If he wasn't such a loyal, dedicated and unassuming bloke he could easily have put himself out there a bit more and get a better job.
I genuinely wouldn't swap him for a manager in the world for us. Mourinho Ferguson whoever. Powell is right for us, like Curbs was, and given half an opportunity I have no doubt he will succeed.0 -
Must be frequented by absolute morons then. Luckily, I've never had the misfortune of stumbling onto said "forum". From what I've read, sounds like only two or three clowns post on there anyway.ParkinsonOut said:They will celebrating over on Into the Valley; so much hate for Powell on that forum. The saying "be careful what you wish for" comes to mind.

I went through a phase of thinking he wasn't up for it but I'd be more than happy for him to stay with us. There's no one else out there and even if there was I'd only want a few.
Fact is as everyone says he's a Charlton man and he doesn't have the same cash as most of these championship clubs. At the very least keep him on to the end of this season. I have faith.0 -
I really want him to stay. After the L1 season and then getting us to 9th last year he really has proved himself. Let's see what he can do with a bit of stability behind him and some money. Plus, he's Charlton through and through which is so important IMO.0

the scary thing is the amount of people that say give him 6 months
these clowns would have had fergie out on his ear and that would have been without 2 successful seasons behind him that SCP has had
the we want results right now, the impatient approach of some of our fans is ridiculous
give SCP a decent amount of time with a bit of dough so 18 months to 2 years and judge him then you spoilt brats
and yes if we lose the next 40 games then maybe he's lost the dressing room and he shouldn't be given 2 years but come on we're little ole Charlton we don't have a divine right to success
Curbs and Lennie spoilt us , that isn't the normal !6 -

Oohaah - commenting on what is likely to happen - and would happen under 90% of new owners where the manager is not their man. Powell's job is to win him over, which I'm sure he will. Our job is to let it be known we are fully behind him. That is very important and anybody who knows anything about football (and suspect our new owner does) will appreciate the value of that. It wold be naive to think that a run of poor results won't carry a risk. If I was taking the club on he'd get a big juicy deal but the new owner won't have the same affinity with Sir Chris as we have.1
-
Managers stand or fall by the players they sign. If CP is allowed to get new players in that will apply to him as well.1
-
This gets my approval. Completely agree. The man's a hero!paulsturgess said:Ousting SCP would be a great way to immediately alienate themselves to supporters but as the likes of Tan have shown, a lot of these blokes couldn't really give a monkeys about that.

I also feel proud that we have the longest serving manager in the Championship. It's not quite up there with Huddersfield's 10 year unbeaten run, but in the current short-term culture I think it something to maintain.0
-
The highly unscientific and unofficial survey on CL a little while ago had about a 93% approval rating for Chris Powell, only 7% say he should depart.0
-
We need an attacking wide player to replace Stewart (who beats players) and a goal scorer with pace. They are the two types of players Chrissy needs to get to make us one of the best teams in this league. Not easy as strikers like that don't come cheap - in fees or wages if on loan. If Powell get the right two in, you will see us shooting up th etable. Th equestion is - who is out there that fits the description and might be available?0
-
The arguably more scientific but equally as unofficially survey in the SLP currently has 77% of people thinking Powell deserves a new contract, with 23% saying no. I guess that is the same thing.seth plum said:The highly unscientific and unofficial survey on CL a little while ago had about a 93% approval rating for Chris Powell, only 7% say he should depart.

Either way the majority are behind him.0
-
Doesnt matter what the majority think as Vincent Tan and Nicola Cortese have demonstrated.1
-
Exactly that. I think that his position is much more unsure now than last week.0

If the new owner wants to make money out of Charlton he will give SCP a new contract.Abigger club wants SCP has to pay the contract up.Money made.
Otherside of coin....let Powell go has to pay him out and bring in a man from the Lowlands who would no nothing of english football.
SCP HAS TO HAVE ALONGER CONTRACT........ NOW.........2 -
Would be gutted if SCP did not get a chance too prove himself with some £. Deserves the opportunity.0
-
Some people said the same about Parky .
Lets wait and see what this guy has in mind0 -
unfortunately we now have to brace ourselves for the possibility that the new owner may want his own choice at the helm, but I sincerely hope he backs SCP though.1
-
Do you think he'll offer Powell a contract pretty quickly?
Or will he see how he performs first?0 -
I don't think he'll offer Powell a contract, but he'll tell him what he has to do to earn one in the coming months. I'm confident Powell will achieve it. The appointment of Murray clearly shows to me he is willing to listen to people who know the club so he will be told what an asset Chrissy is to us. I doubt he wants to throw money around for nothing so sticking with the manager he is being told is loved by the fans and is a real talent is the most likely scenario in my books.
I suspect TJ sold the club to him based on his own plan that was scupperd by KC withdrawing his financial support and I expect the new owner to follow on the path TJ would have liked to.0 -
Hope your right mutts. Will say a lot about the man0
-
I just don't see a rich looney like Tan playing with the club for fun. I see it as a positive the owner is in this to make a profit as the only way he can do this that I can see will benefit the club.1
-
This is the way I see it too and we should start out well. I sense it might get bumpier sooner or later but then this is CAFC innit?0
-
The man understands money. He will put SCP ona long contract a.s.a.p. if he has any brains.1
