Thing is CPs tactical knowledge is likely to be worse than a bloke who researches and writes solely about tactics for a living.
We know CP has a lot to learn about tactics but his all round man management, transfer dealings and leadership is superb and something I wouldn't expect some of our muppet fans to understand.11 -

Quite brave of Chris Powell to agree to that and all credit to him. Some interesting insights. Cameron Stewart as an archetypal inverted winger, supported by an athletic wing back, for example.0

Just checked ITTV, what a bunch of freaks!!!!! Seriously smoking crack, had the displeasure of sharing a cab with Reams at Cov away few years ago and I then found out my old man wasn't the biggest moaner to grace god's green earth.

I thought he came across very well and was the one with most to lose by giving too much away.
You can see how important Wiggy, Lawrie Wilson and Chris Solly are to his plans.

as stated on the program, Sir Alex won everything with that formation.
VG got it spot on, CP's strength is not in his tactical nous but all of the other above points.
I do however think he needs to strengthen his tactical knowledge and how he applies that in games because it will be his downfall if he doesn't. With a few better players he may just take a few more risks tactically0 -
I read his zonalmarking.net site which has really opened my eyes over the years. Also it is far less stressful analysing other peoples tactics than being a manager yourself. As they say for those who can't do - teach!0

I asked him at a dinner last year why we defend so deep in many games for the last 20 mins - usually when we're ahead- he couldn't answer the question and pretty much said the back 4 did their own thing. i think it was telling when he said 'as a coach you can have a clear idea on how you would like to play, but sometimes you haven't got the players to do it so you have to adapt to suit their strengths'0

honestly reams is hilarious, he calls everyone out saying that they're scardy cats for not saying things they say online to his face. I seem to remember him calling CP a clown and clueless throughout last season. When he was a special guest at Cardiff did Reams stick to his "principles" and call him a clown and clueless to his face? Did he f**k. Interesting watching and learning what a "false" number 9 actually does and a "false" number 10 (which to me just sounded like a target man/poacher combo). Of course everyone would like to play like Barcelona and bayern munich, but they have the best players in the world and can afford to do that!
Would love to see these naysayers manage a team of 11 a side, would be hilarious to see their "passion" on the sidelines and their incredible tactical subsitutions.
I guess they're just going to play some more football manager instead.3 -

However, whilst some have (including me) have been concerned about CP'a tactics, it's not the only thing that makes a good manager.

I believe that Reams has a fair number of coaching badges and used to scout for Eddie when he was boss at Cardiff and at his spell at Wrexham. He may not be the most popular of guys but those who know him respect his ability in terms of the professional game of which he was a part unlike most of us forum contributors.0

Tactics...as long as they don't self harm then I think the idea of "strong tactical mind" is overrated. That might sound rather stupid, but as said, if it was all purely tactical based, Pardew would be jobless and Les Reed would be "The special one".
I also think Powell should have stayed at home on this one. He doesn't not owe skysports his personal football views, taking into consideration what his current job is.
Powell does not need to prove anything here and shouldn't have done so.0
