I doubt it will cost them much as I suspect that many of those fans that travelled down last weekend are season ticket holders and already have a ticket for next sat.5

With all due respect it's a cheap (if not free) gesture aimed at PR - and probably in the hope that Charlton will give away free tickets to the rearranged game.
Firstly, I, seriously, doubt that many of those that traveled from Barnsley to Charlton will not, already, have a ticket for this weekend's game - either a season ticket or bought in advance. Thus it is probably going to cost the club next to nothing to give away tickets to people that wouldn't have paid for one anyway. We sent out loads of comp tickets for the Derby game, but only because we didn't expect them to come otherwise.
Secondly all insurance policies have a clause in them about 'acts of god'. Sure, our pitch is a bit of a mess, but we did have a shed load of rain, and games can be called off at any time. Maybe it was a terrible mistake for us to believe that the game would go ahead but I just refuse to believe that those running our club knew in advance that the ref would postpone the match.
It is not possible to predict everything in advance. The nations of this world spend billions and billions of pounds on weather prediction (computers, satellites, manned scientific research centers and hundreds of man hours and they can't even see a flipping hurricane coming from two hours before it arrives. It is unfortunate, but a fact of life that sometimes things need to be cancelled, and at late notice.
I've read loads of critical posts about how 'disgraceful' our club is for failing to get a football game on yet this weather did, in fact, cause thousands of homes to be without power over Christmas. It is not typical weather we have been having.
Even if one does believe that the fault lies with the club, surely we can give them the benefit of doubt as they were neither responsible for what happened before the takeover that was completed less than two weeks ago, nor could they have known this was going to happen and we did spend a lot of money trying to get the game on and failed.
I just can't see the point of having digs at our club at any time, but now, with a new owner who is trying to move us in the right direction?4 -

Even if the Barnsley fans get an extra ticket that they could give to a friend there's nothing but positives for the club. Sure they lose out on the ticket sale but the chances are they're tickets that would not otherwise have sold anyway plus you get an extra body in the stadium who will be spending money on programs, food, drink etc and it's good PR. Win/win and pretty much a no brainer from the club's perspective.0

Except they probably won't be able to give the tickets away. I have nothing against Barnsley doing this - all be it I think it is a crafty way of boosting PR for very little cost. I just don't think it does anything, at all, to help their fans.0 -
Incidentally, I would be disappointed if Charlton offered to give money to the Barnsley fans to compensate them for what is, in actual fact, bad weather that the club can't control. We need to remember that the club's money has come from us and I don't want to pay for them to come back - we have enough financial problems already without paying opposition fans to say sorry because we had the worst rain for a decade.2

Didnt our club give us Season Ticket holders two free tickets for friends to come to matches this season... If most of the Barnsley fans benefiting from this are season ticket holders then that means they they're benefiting from one less compared to us (and it only extends to 500 fans, am sure we've more Season Ticket holders than that)
Didnt our club give ex-Season Ticket holders a free ticket for the match against Derby County?
For the last X number of years havent our club released offers such as Footballer For a Five plus Football for £10 (like when we won the title, the club could have charged more for fans to see us lift the League One trophy)
Got a feeling Charlton are better at PR than Barnsley to be honest on that basis6 -
All our club failed to do was communicate that there 'could' be a problem
by misreading the pitch situation
i personally thought the sheff wed pitch was a lot worse than the brighton pitch
i don't think anyone would be moaning if there'd been safety first warnings that it 'may' get called off
i'm not bothered about individuals being picked out to blame , the club misread the situation and you'd like to think it could never happen again
for the rest of the season with this problem , a timeline of inspections should be communicated to all if the pitch is still sodden, about as and when inspections will be planned and that everyone (away team as well) is aware that a late heavy downpour could put the fixture in doubt due to our drainage issues and then no one can have any complaints1 -

did that cloud of rain only pour on The Valley , why were no other games off this weekend , well we all know it's cos of our wanky drainage and that didn't just collapse the night before the game and we could have got that drainage under control if we'd fixed it !kings hill addick said:we had the worst rain for a decade.
we have a unique problem and we have to show more consideration about whether our games will be on or not and that should include pitch inspections and warnings to all fans about potential disruption4 -

Weather forecasts have been telling everybody for some time that we were in for heavy rain.
1) Given our pitch was in a shit state after the Wednesday game why was it so long before a dome was erected, over a week was lost.
2) The pitch was and from what I hear, still is in a poor condition, why was there no early inspection.
3) Even after all this the subsequent communication was pitiful and in my opinion inadequate.
4) After all above the club still had chance to placate its own fans by offering some kind of offer/compensation, particularly those that travel miles.
By the way, I believe that I have the right as a long term season ticket holder to say what I think & simply because we have new owners means very little to me to be honest.
After saying this & having my moan I will be there tonight & in the future as always.
