Always sounds like they have a lisp when they say his name

It's supposed to sound like a lisp, I believe it's called a Catalan lisp, as in
Bath er loner with a northern twang to the bath!

Next we should start calling teams like Napoli, Naples when they have the cheek to play over here.

Have never understood how featherstonehaugh becomes Fanshaw though!

I think your commentator might be correct. Nice to make a thread revealing your own ignorance though !
It's comments like this that make new people on forums like me not want to use them. I was not offensive or rude to you.

English commentators have a problem with Dutch names.....uy or ui should be pronounced ow (as in "ow that hurt"). Johan Cruyff (should be Crowff not Croyff), Daniel Van Buyten (fan Bowten) Kevin De Bruyne (Browner).

By reading some of the views here, it seems we should all be calling the self proclaimed best team in the world Bathalona?

It's not unique to Britain, the Portuguese commentators often refer to Sunderland's centre half as John O-she-ahh.

Shouldn't that be "Every letter is pronounced 'th' in Ththththththth."?

I noticed a MOTD commentator suddenly saying 'Punch-eeon' the other day instead of 'Punchen' for Jason Puncheon.
