He can stop making poor substitutions for a start, he can come up with some training ground moves for corners and free kicks... Neither of those are to do with having tied hands.dancafc said:I don't think Powell is holding us back I think he wants to take us forward as he's said before it's his club but with his hands tied what can he do

I love Powell, Charlton through and through but if Parkinson, pardew, dowie or others had 1 win in 11 and in the relegation zone you would be calling for their heads.
I think he we be sacked but think we should get an interim head coach to mentor him. Don't know who or how it would work but would rather see that than Powell sacked and replaced with standards reserve team manager (sarcasm not a rumour)0 -
Were having a great time under Powell ain't we 5 wins all season pathetic any other manager andAFKABartram said:Sacked.
Just get on with it. Clearly not gonna walk and clearly not part of the long term plan so put everyone out of their misery, bring in Johnny Foreigner and let's see this bright new world that so many claim Powell is holding us back from.
We would be screaming for him to be sacked1 -
Just an idea new experienced manager in Powell as coach to continue learning the management game. don't shot me down its just a thought0
-
Whether he goes or stays i'll support the manager of charlton athletic 100%. Shame the same can't be said about certain "supporters". I'm sure in whatever event chris leaves the club whether its this week or 10 years the same gang will want the new man out just as quick. Spoilt supporters some of our lot are, same could be said about most football fans these days.2
-
We can't afford for this to drag on any longer. If RD is gonna sack him then do it now, get in your own man and we will see how that pans out. At least then it gives that man a chance to save us. I love CP and want him to succeed and don't want him sacked but you can't deny he is too negative and probably cost us at least a point today by being too negative. If you keep inviting pressure at some point you will crack. Get the ball up the pitch, the opposition can't score from there.0
-
Whatever happens and whoever ends up in charge it won't make any difference. RD will continue to control transfer policy and players will be forced onto a manager.1
-
Always we get ahead then lose. Bad manager we should of seen this and many more games out. Sack him we need a manager that can hold onto a lead.0
-
Pardew and Dowie were given huge resources and full backing to build the teams they wanted and failed. The one season where Powell was given similar backing, he was a huge success.Todds_right_hook said:I love Powell, Charlton through and through but if Parkinson, pardew, dowie or others had 1 win in 11 and in the relegation zone you would be calling for their heads.
If Powell had been backed in the summer, with the players he wanted to keep given contracts and his own targets brought in, and we were in this position then I would be 100% in agreement with you. But that's not even close to our current situation.
We have, in my opinion, an incredibly talented manager, a real asset to the club, but whose hands have been tied behind his back for a couple of years now. If people genuinely think Chris Powell is the reason we are where we are, and that rather the ridiculous behind the scenes going ons of the last 18 months aren't a major factor then I think that's a delusion.11 -
Worked for Yeovil but I think Powell is too proud to accept thatdancafc said:Just an idea new experienced manager in Powell as coach to continue learning the management game. don't shot me down its just a thought

Sick of the reaction every time on here.
So in the past those who have had the balls to suggest anybody have put forward;
Glenn Hoddle
Neil Warnock
Avram Grant
and now
Mr Rolandmustknowsomebody.
Not an impressive list for me, and I don't believe they would do any better than Chris Powell, and I reckon in some cases worse.
We lost narrowly at Wigan, yeah painfully, but narrowly. We have had worse than that I can tell you.
It must feel great for all the sneering triumphalists to rip into Powell at every opportunity. I don't suspect they give a toss for the man himself who as far as I can see cares 100%, gives 100%. Mind you giving somebody a hard time may be a form of carnal pleasure to some.
We have no viable alternative at the moment, and personally I don't particularly want one.
Oh by the way to the sneerers, you can declare that I and other posters like me are so far up Chris Powell's backside, or part of the Powell can do no wrong brigade, but as you live in the land of destruction you won't have any constructive ideas will you?
Go on....make the case for Warnock, that would be the easiest start, then move on to Hoddle and Grant and construct a realistic scenario if you think you can.
....but don't list 'loyalty' as one of the new persons strengths please, the irony would taste like bile.
There will eventually be another manager after Chris Powell, not for a long time I hope. I do hope that person realises that if they were to ever lose a match there will be people on here getting the horn at the prospect of having a new target to attack.

RD should have sacked him right when he took over tbh. It's clear RD wants to bring in his own man.0

In the end, we've only won 5 games - CP or new/foreign manager, it's not good enough.AFKABartram said:Sacked.

Hardly having a pop, not resorted to name calling or anything. I don't like these threads that pop up after every defeat, whether your on his side or not, having them gives oxygen and encouragement for his strongest critics and also brings less vocal critics out of the woodwork.dancafc said:Anyone would think I'm Rd the way this bloke keeps having a pop
The case against him builds momentum and the next thing you know people are singing Powell out at the valley. If RD's looking to get rid anyway, he won't hesitate once he feels like he has fans on side with the decision.
So it may not directly impact his sacking/retention, but it's another straw on the camels back and hardly supportive of you.
Imagine how you'd feel if your were under scrutiny at work and then you found a post on your mates Facebook asking if all your other mates thought you would be sacked or not. Doubt you'd be pleased to see it.

Get ready for loads of League 1 wins next year. Too much needed with too few games left for a failing team, I am afraid.0

Agree with you - shame the pitch/cup cost us two winnable home games in Jan - 6points would've changed the mood massivelyshirty5 said:3 home league games this month. 6/7 points required or it will be a bridge too far.

Malky Macaky is Powell's good friend and no doubt is aware of what is happening at the club. I don' think there's a chance in hell he'd want to get involved!TravHouse said:

Yes. He is a better manager. The club comes first. However I don't think he would like the recruitment methods.0 -
