Sorry this is an odd thread, I support Charlton Athletic, england and the England cricket team. I think CP is a Charlton legend though, mostly as a player but also as a manager. He is also a top man, but how do you support a man? Are we building a human pyramid?

All the other threads posted about CP talk of him being a Top Man, Others a true legend as a player and some say he is a great manager. I wanted to decide the three and to understand what people are basing there opinions on. Again is our record since our return to the Championship good enough.

    Good enough for what?

Probably good enough for the lack of investment in the squad. Last year? More than good enough with the squad.

My honest opinion is we over achieved big time last seasonconsidering the squad we had, then it was weakened in the summer and we have struggled. He isn't the greatest manager in the world and at times he makes odd decisions, but then all fans say the same unless you have Jose or Sir Alex as your boss. He is a legend as a player and a really top bloke, but he is a good manager, he has yet to reach anything above that with us. However I am glad he is our manager as he cares and he is going to be a great manager one day, hopefully he is still here then.

Not really a survey is it.

A: Even non Charlton fans would struggle to have a bad word to say about Chris as a footballer
B: Can you not support someone as a man. He is a person and therefore deserves respect.
C: This is alll you really wanted to ask so why not just ask this? Oh wait is it because there are already 100 other threads asking this question?

One more question please, if Chris was in the same mould personality wise as Pardew would you still feel the same as now bases on the same results/investment
  • None of the above, I support Charlton Athletic, managers will come and managers will go.

Did Chris Powell piss on your cornflakes or did he not smile at you at the Valley or something Vincent?

He could do all that and more if he could just manage to get some more consistency from our players

This is the main problem and a big expectation. These are middle/lower level champ players, consistency is something they are never likely to possess.

CP's only fault in my opinion is his failure to learn from his own mistakes.

I think so, the difference between Pardew and Powell other than personality is that they entered this division from opposite ends, one had lots of cash to waste the other none. You cannot compare them as the situations are not similar in the slightest.

If CP is given funds next year and we still lack consistency then I will probably feel his time has come, but he has been like a juggler trying to perform with no limbs this last year or so. Consistency comes at a price, the better the player the more consistent they are.

Well VG has pretty much answered it. These are league 1/championship players which is why they aren't playing in the premiership or top teams in Europe. We are where we are because of the quality or our players not because of the quality of our manager. Powell has a lot to learn but I hope it is with us as he will go on to be a great manager.

VG again thanks for a sensible response and another question for you please.
Lack of investment we all agree, Mid table at best most would agree so would you give me your opinion as to why over the past season and a half most of our wins/performances have been against the better sides.

I'd like to see the results against teams around us compared to top teams, just to be sure what you are saying is correct.

If thats true, then perhaps its the pressure off and a lower level of expectancy that allows the players to put in a better performance. Maybe the other sides have got complacent, id say this was the case in the Cardiff game. As good as our 2nd half performance was, Cardiff were equally awful.

Very difficult question to answer and perhaps one that CP can't answer himself.
