It was getting to the point where I was wondering whether this was some kind of elaborate in joke, and the two of you were going to WHOOSH the lot of usOakster said:
no offence taken Jimmy its been a long day - i was actually quite proud of having posted the stupidest comment ever on Charlton Life - that is an amazing achievementJiMMy 85 said:Ok - apologies, I've been pounding through more threads than usual. Of course you can! It's the management team's job to motivate players! If my 'team' performed like that in the work place week in, week out, I would expect to be held accountable because I am paid to manage and produce results.charlton_hero said:
No, Warnock would be a terrible choice. Can you blame Powell for the spirit? Especially taking into account what he's had to contend with this season.Greenie said:
Warnock would be my choice if Powell went! It least he would instill some spirit in the side which was lacking today and the majority of this season.charlton_hero said:
So tell me, Jonny. What do you want to happen from here, sack Powell? If so, who should we replace him with? Trouble is, those who are discontented with Powell are offering up no real solutions, they're just simply shouting down those who do still support him. Powell in.JonnyK said:
Wow you are so easily pleased.charlton_hero said:I agree, was woeful today but now is not the time to re-ignite the "Powell out" jibes. He and the team need our full support now. There's no one better for the job.

We're bottom of the Championship and playing terrible football - it must be somebody's fault. Even Yeovil who have a budget of 50p look a better side than us.
At least we can't sink any lower.1 -
Can't be arsed to plough through six pages of comments, but did Matt D come up with an answer as to who the manager should be?0

Would you find it harder to do that if your team didn't know where they were going to be working in 3 months time?bazjonster said:

I'm sure he does.Paddy Powell said:
He is close to CP - he knew Powell was our manager before we did and dropped a massive hint about it on twitter at the time.Darty Valiant said:Why should Andy Ansah's opinion be so important?
He would have some idea about what's going on behind the scenes.0 -
Love Powell the man but seriously doubting Powell the Championship Manager. 101 League 1 points feels like a lifetime ago.1

If I break it down to individual players, he was one of the poorest. Wiggins was poor, wood was poor, as was cousins and church. The fact that Jackson was captain and talked up the importance of the FA cup then delivered that performance, puts him right up there. I'm fed up of our team accommodating him if he doesn't score goals or deliver on a set piece. The goal against QPR and the assist up at Wednesday are not frequent enough.CharltonByBlood said:
There was far worse players on that pitch today then Jackson ..cabbles said:
I'm sorry, I know a great many fans are in love with him but Jackson was anonymous. Quick free kick aside, this was the man who captained the team and like Powell, is meant to get them up for the game. He's been giving all the talk about being the last of generation to grow up watching the cup, his last chance to play at Wembley. He's slow. His goals like the winner against QPR are too few and far between these days. Playing him leads to a very unbalanced midfield, players playing out of position to accommodate him. He did bottle it today and he's another tired peg in Powell's overly cautious tactics book.CharltonByBlood said:

Embarrassed....still on wards and upwards...it's the only way we can go.0

Honestly, I'm kind of embarressed if fans of other clubs saw the kind of stuff that has been posted today. We've been knocked out at the quarter final stage of a national competition. And some how, because we played fairly badly, in a quarter final, then powell should be sacked. What have we become? Arsenal supporters? Get a grip people. There are scumbags i've seen on message boards revelling in the fact we lost today and are actually happy other supporters want a man sacked. It's an utter embarressment. The performance today and the reaction of some "supporters". How many would have loved to have had a crack at getting to wembley today? All the other clubs who entered the fa cup and got knocked out rounds ago.3

never sCP's fault, nor will it ever be. it was the *owner/groundsman/FA/fans/loan system/players/pitch/physio/etc.
*delete as appropriate1 -
It wont do if we go down.....I like Powell. Its these shity players we have lack of money etc.. Not his fault at all. If he were at QPR etc he would really shine....meldrew66 said:Love Powell the man but seriously doubting Powell the Championship Manager. 101 League 1 points feels like a lifetime ago.
Dont worry next season we have a chance of going far in the cup again. Now whos for the Johnstones paint trophy?

Surely the responsibility for todays performance is a combined responsibility of the players and the management. The management had the responsibility to get the players up for the game and the players had the responsibility to be up for the game. There was failure on all sides to achieve this.chester_conrad said:
100% spot on.WSS said:Today I blame the players. Every single one bottled it.
However the game has gone, the important thing is Wednesday and Saturday, if we can get 4 out of 6 points then we are back on track.0 -
agreed Kap, and if we don't get at least 4 points, we need to change the manager, if it is not too late by then. big couple of games coming up. come on cp, prove me wrong.0

Church is wank. A rare goal from JJ doesn't mean he can play at this level. We have the players to suceed they just don't start.2

Right... well, just to be clear, I read your comment as being irony free. Which means I can take it word for word. 'A new manager always does the trick'.Red_Pete in Dubai said:
These are the first managers that sprang to mind, that led me to think your comment was ridiculous.
Henning Berg
Michael Appleton
René Meulensteen
Felix Magath
Pepe Mel
David Moyes (!)
Or how about our own, recent history:
Les Reed
Phil Parkinson
Alan Pardew
Which of those guys proves your rule? Or do you think these are the exceptions?
Wooooshhhhh!!
I'm no way letting Dowie escape our own recent history0 -

I can't believe that no one has mentioned the very good team that beat us today
I know they are mid table in the 3rd division but they won't be there for long0 -

we only just beat Oxford utd, it took a replay. then had Huddersfield and then Sheffield Wednesday. So not that outstanding a performance.0

I really don't want to trawl through the (currently) six pages of this thread, so forgive me if I'm repeating anything said already....
1. If we get shot of CP, will we realistically get anyone worth having at the moment? We could get someone far worse.
2. Given the recent history of CAFC - namely chronic under-investment under the previous regime - could we have expected anyone else to have done better?
3. CAFC's new owner has made a significant change with the multi-club model. I don't think you can compare life under Roland in the same way as life was under Slater and Jiminez. Not only do the players have to adapt to that, but so does the manager. I think it's a totally fundamental difference.
4. There is a lot of raw emotion right now following our exit from the FA Cup which makes it hard to be optimistic and objective. Turning things around takes time, and in some respects the FA Cup has been a distraction from the league. We have to give CP time. Note: if someone else came in they would need time too.
5. Recent articles in the papers on managerial changes in the Premiership (and there have been a fair few this season) all quote stats that changing the manager does not always yield good results. Fulham have done it twice....
6. We have three games in hand (and four against Millwall) which gives us opportunity. I don't think that will be lost on either CP or the team.
I just don't feel comfortable with the idea of just kicking CP out. He has been exceptionally loyal to his players, and has not spoken out against the previous regime or indeed about anything which he may disagree with under the current one. Yes results are important - don't get me wrong - but acting with the kind of integrity CP has IMHO been doing is something you won't find comes as standard with every manager, and may be lacking in any replacement.0 -
I think the bottom line is this (and I wish I didn't think it but form, tactics and table position don't lie)-
If Powell stays we will be relegated.
Yes he's a great bloke and a ledge but we must be pro active and do something cos the current management and coaching set up are below par.0
