Chris, I 've followed you since you first signed for Charlton. One of my happiest days was when you picked up your first England cap. You've done wonders for our club both as player and manager. All the very best for the future.

You tried so hard to ease the pain and bring us stability Chrissy. I am heartbroken that you have been sacked and for me this is the day that Charlton died. Love to your Mum as well and we hope she gets to go on a lot more cruises. We will always remain Powellites. Thank you and may you get a club that deserves you.

And the same to Alex Dyer and Damian Matthew who I assume will be leaving as well.

    Thanks Chris.

the L1 title winning season will live forever in mine and my son's memories.
  • Thank you Chris for everything.

You took over when this club was in one of the worst positions I had ever known since I started supporting the club in 1968. After a brief spell getting to grips with the club's position, you turned our fortunes around in that never to be forgotten 2011/12 season when one club record after another fell. I felt as proud as I have ever done in the final game against Hartlepool that season and truly the doors were open for the club to embark on another period of success.

Instead the rug has been pulled from under you. Despite this you have always acted with dignity and your love of the club has always shone through. You are a true gentleman as well as a highly talented manager.

I am sure a new club much more deserving of your talents will quickly sign you and I wish you every success in the future. You will always be a true Charlton legend to me.

Cheers SCP. You'll always, always be a Charlton legend. Thank you for one of the best footballing seasons we've had in recent memory in that League One title-winning campaign, and countless other moments along the way. All the best for the future.
  • One of the proudest moments watching Charlton for more than 40 years was seeing Chris pull on an England shirt and representing our club. No only was Chris a top quality player for us but he personified everything that was great about our club and represented us wonderfully in whatever he did.

Moving into management he took over in extremely difficult circumstances but again rose to the challenge brilliantly and united us all. He remains universally liked and respected by everyone in and out of the game and that is a rare thing indeed.

Today is a sad day for all supporters but I have zero doubt that Chrissy will put the last season behind him and we will see him managing again at the very highest level.

Good luck Chris and you should always receive a heroes welcome whenever you return to The Valley.
