Good luck Chris, and thanks for all you have done. Just wish that one of our owners had the foresight to invest money in you . You will not be out of work for long and wish you all the best

    Very sad day absolutely gutted
  • Thank you Chris. You will always be a club legend both as player and manager for me. Sometimes in this world you don't get what you deserve. I am sure you will be a great success with whichever club is lucky enough to get you next. I for one will always keep an eye out on your career from here and only wish you to go from strength to strength (unless of course you end up at Palace)!! Hopefully one day you may return here as I think you know you will always have the support of the vast majority of the fans and owners come and go. Good luck Sir Chris

Thanks Chris for embodying what football means to many of us fans. Loyalty , passion , leadership, are all adjectives that were made for you. I remember you as a player. You were nothing if not dependable , solid , committed, with great timing as a tackler. For many of us we wonder where football is going.....I was talking to a coach of a junior side in the pub last week. He talked of the values that he hoped to instill in his young team. Values that enable people to survive and thrive as human beings , not just as footballers.

Its hard to see much of that at the higher level of football these days, but somehow you embody a large slice of those values, not least the quiet dignified way that you go about your business. No histrionics, two bit power-plays or slurs from you, but rather a core of self belief and strength and a humility and generosity towards others. Very few fans can boast a manger who loved and respected their club in the way you have and I am sure still do. We have been very fortunate to have you.

I have no concerns about your future. You will go on to do great things. Of that I am sure. You have leader written all over you. Although I am sure there is a sense of sadness and possibly even a hint of failure in your mind and heart today. Rest assured for most of us on here , the loss is most definitely Charlton Athletic Football Clubs.

Thank you Chris for everything you have done for this club, first as a player and then as a very successful manager.

Thank you for some really special memories. You deserve a lot better, good luck in the future

Thank you Chris. In the 20 years I've followed Charlton you are by far and away the one player I will hold the fondest memories of.

Gives me pride to say that I will one day be telling my unborn children and grandchildren about 'Sir Chris Powell'

You'll always be a king in these parts.

Thanks for all you've done Chris. Leading us to the League 1 championship with 101 points, taking a threadbare squad to 9th last year and having to deal with players sold under your nose with your hands tied behind your back. A cup run and a dodgy pitch meant that we've games in hand. Good luck and I hope you go on to great things.

Chris, You are a legend, and always will be in my eyes. You've given us some of the only good times we've had in god knows how long over the last 3 seasons and I am truly gutted you've gone.

    Good luck in the future.

    Legend

Thanks for the memories Chris you gave us our club back after several years in the wilderness with a fantastic record breaking league 1 champions season. A Charlton legend who had the club at heart and decent man who was dealt a very rough hand, all the very best for the future.

Thank you Chris. You deserve much better than this and I'm sure you will have lots of future success. It's just a shame it won't be with Charlton. Good luck in everything you do.
  • One of the good guys, helped out a charity I ran when he first came to Charlton, nothing was too much for him

Good luck for the future, I hope he finds a club in not quite as much turmoil.

Thankyou for bringing our Charlton back, with Charlton-like players, and then having it all needlessly destroyed when promoted. Oh what might have been with just a bit more money. You're better off out now, Chris. Thank you and good luck.

Thanks for everything Chris. It must have been very difficult for you to work with both hands tied behind your back and to see the club you obviously love dismantled around you. Good luck for the future. You deserve it !!

Thanks Chris, I hope you go on to be a top manager in the game, hopefully wherever you end up you'll be treated much better there than you have been here by both boards.

Thanks for the memories, it took me 10 years as a season ticket holder to see us actually win (I know others have had to wait much longer!!!) something and you were largely responsible for that. That bought us out of the darkness and into the light, with the right backing things would of continued to get better but alas we'll never know for sure.

    Cheers for everything Chris.
  • Chris, you deserve better than this but the way you have handled the last 12 months or so has been with dignity and integrity. The majority of fans are aware of the circumstances you've had to work under and while none of us like the position we're in we know that when supported properly by the board you have always delivered.

We'll miss your tunnel jumps, your smile and the general positive vibe you've brought to the club. The team spirit that bonded both the players and fans. The honesty and humour that's missing in so many managers these days.

Your career I'm sure will continue on an upward curve. I'll be watching and wishing the best wherever you go (well... if you go to Palace I'm afraid I won't but you know what I mean!). I just hope that we're not watching you from a lower division.

I fear for the future of Charlton Athletic but I don't fear for the future of Chris Powell. One day when you're managing in the upper parts of the Premier League, or even England, we'll be able to look at you and say to each other "he's one of us".

    Charlton Legend.

Respect and good luck gaffer, and to all of your back room staff that might be leaving with you.

I think I speak for the majority of us when I say - absolutely gutted.

Thanks for everything Chris. Most supporters know what you've had to work with for 18 months.

You're an honest, decent, good manager who i'm sure will go on to have great success.

You will always be part of this club. Thanks for 'getting us', and trying to make this club Proud again.

It couldn't be further from it today.

Thanks Chris for everything. Your passion for the club really did put smiles back on faces. I look forward to following you and Charlton for years to come.
  • Cheers Chris thanks for all you did at Charlton as a player and manager. Sad that we can't say goodbye to you.
You built a team to get us out of league one and then kept us in the championship.
You acted with dignity when there must have been problems going on behind the scenes.
Hope you get another job soon and that you still have a place for Charlton in your heart.
You always will be a legend to us fans. Thank you

Many thanks for all the good times you gave me whilst you were at Charlton. Seeing you run out in your England shirt was amazing. Your celebration from the tunnel after we'd won always kept on a smile on my face as I left The Valley.

You were a great player for Charlton, a very good manager (they didn't give you time to cement your place with the greats), and more importantly than both of those, a thoroughly nice bloke, a true gentleman. It may be a long time before we see your like again.

Good luck Chris. I'm sure you will be a success elsewhere and really hope you are. You have been dealt a poor hand over the last 18 months and deserved better. You are better off out of it in my opinion. Good luck, will never forget the promotion season and the 101 points.

    Thanks Chris.

My all time favourite memory of football at the Valley was your unlikely goal in your final game against Coventry! I remember the ball bouncing across the box, almost in slow motion, like it was yesterday. Everyone around us could see you were going to intercept it, and when it hit the back of the net - the whole place erupted. I've never seen anything like it, before or since.

The integrity you brought to managing the club will be sorely missed. I doubt we'll get another like you for a very long time.

All the best with whatever you go on to do - but please, please, please, don't ever manage Palace!

Thanks for the good memories Chris. Every spell you have had with Charlton has been truly great! There have been very few goals that I cheered so loudly compared to yours against Coventry, and then we bowed to you when you came into Bartram's, and again as you drove away up Floyd Road with your family that evening. We bowed again when the League one trophy was lifted, and I now bow to you as you depart as manager. Players, and managers, change, but the constant is the Club. Charlton wil survive, but will be a little lesser without you. The king is dead; long live the king!

Chris made charlton charlton again that club from SE7 where the whole area had it's club back and the feeling of being a club again. Win lose or draw, the fans still respected you. Because you were a Charlton fan running our club. Will miss you brother.
