One important thing tonight re: Riga

He doesn't know the squad, and will have observed (not taken) one, very light, training session.

It will be clear whether it is Rolands advisers or the Dyer / Matthew who pick.the team.

But whatever happens, whether there is an improvement and we win, or get worse and we lose, this won't mean a single thing about this new fellas potential ability.

Our best chance tonight is if the squad rally themselves and go out there and 'do it for Chris'.

    As long as the 'do it', I dont really care who it is for. 3 points tonight wont get us out of trouble, but it'll get us close enough to make a difference in the next game.

    Riga is a very intellengent man( which is more than say about me! spelling!!) he will have done his homework on our squad if we are believing that RD had his a done deal ages ago

    Or it could be that Riga has picked the team, or at least had final say, after consultation with Dyer and Matthews. There have been online streams available for our last 4 matches - we don't know how long Riga and Roland have been talking behind the scenes so he may have seen us play a few times, if not in the flesh.

    No doubt he will have watched our display at Sheffield on an illegal stream and realised it couldn't be worse.

    I think your underestimating RD and his pre-planning. I think he has been geared up for this change for a few weeks now, and has probably had Riga review the players using as much information that he had available.

    Even if Riga has been sent the DVDS of the last however many performances, that's not going to be a lot of use to him in assessing the squad, as they'll only show the players that actually played in those matches. Which, for the most part, will be the players that Powell would have picked tonight. As AFKA said, all he can realistically do for this game is rely on the advice of Dyer/Matthew.

    I'm sure this guy will have had a whisper he had the job for the last week and watched countless of videos of us in action with our most current squad.

    I hope so ...at least otherwise he's gana pick thuram and Evina! As they speak the same language!

    Then if that is the case (and quite possibly), considering Powell had a contract put to him last week then RD would be even more of an untrustable snake than you would realise

    Probably far more likely that he put a clause in SCPs contract stating what he had power over and the ensured he had a plan B should Chris not accept.

    So just the two network players in the starting XI and probably the two most fans would have picked. What do we make of that then? Bit surprised to see Sordell start, but probably worth a try.

    Riga bases his selections on Football Manager stats. Apparently he once got Barnet into the Champions League.

    I'd be surprised if Roland hadn't been considering this for a while and had Jose come and watch a few games...

    I'm sure he's not going into the game totally blind.

    I think it could be the case that he was due to start a new senior coaching role with Charlton this week irrespective whether Powell left or not.

    Thats for sure and his side-kick (assistant) comes from class 4 Belgian team, which is not even 4th division.

    I suppose Lennie Lawrence was managing Barcelona when he came to us then? Results is what he should be judges on, nothing else, not being a nice bloke, smiling a lot, or being 'passionate', judge him on results.

    One game -6 months-18 months-30 months
    If he spends millions and does shit do we take it in to account and vice versa or if he has to sell his better players do we not change the flexibility of our view

    The result last night was one point instead of a much needed three. Judging by that he is not delivering what is needed, or maybe he can blame Alex Dyer for dropping two home points in a relegation battle. This is from the club statement:


    “However, given the club’s position in the league and the number of important fixtures upcoming, I felt this difficult decision was unavoidable at this time.

    “We will look to quickly appoint a replacement who we feel will give us the best chance of avoiding relegation from the Championship.

    So Jose Riga is expected to deliver 'at this time' and last night he did not deliver.

    Give it a rest Seth. Powell really delivered, what was it six league wins under him. I went last night and was quite encouraged. What I didn't enjoy were some prats shouting abuse at the new caretaker manager Riga. Also the half hearted announcement by Lockwood. Bit disingenuous I thought.

    He was in charge for 24 hours and got a point. Better finishing and he would of got all 3.

    Jose Riga isn't the villain in this saga. In fact most are hoping he becomes the hero. Not sure what picking on the new boy achieves.

    Worst thing I've seen is some nitwit abusing Riga on here before he even gets started. With that sort of ignorance it is no wonder that we get arguments.

    My judgement based on last nights result in a vital game is only one point, not good enough.
    I have repeatedly said that if Riga keeps the reds up given the circumstances of his arrival he will have done well, and I want him to keep the reds up.
    So far he has failed to deliver, and remains at 0% support from me. If the reds win the vital relegation battle at Millwall that rises to 10% support from me...if the reds lose it will be Alex Dyers fault because poor old Jose has only just arrived.

    You expect some people to just get over Powell within a minute of him going. Some of us really like the bloke. He got us promoted & finished 9th last year. We had 4 games in hand, Powell deserved the opportunity to put it right.

    @sethplum clearly didn't want Powell to leave like the overwhelming majority. Stop digging people out who havnt quite got over it.

    Everyone is entitled to a opinion at the end of the day. Especially those who pay for a ticket to enter the ground.
