Those of you happy with the way RD and his network have gone about things since taking over....

Wouldn't be surprised if a few of the players have decided they aren't signing new contracts now. Can't see much attraction wanting to play for a feeder club and knowing you're likely to be overlooked for a lesser player just because they have Standard Liege on their CV.Swisdom said:

Ridiculous speculation? When that clown Thuram-Ulien runs out at the Valley tonight, with the new manager at RD's instructions having relegated Ben Hamer to the subs bench (a goalkeeper who is being chased by a number of Premiership clubs at the moment according to speculation in today's papers) will that convince you all is not well?Red_Pete in Dubai said:The assertion that we are a feeder club is nothing more than ridiculous speculation. Stonemuse, that is a very thoughtful post.stonemuse said:
This is exactly as I see it. I wanted nothing more than for Chris Powell to stay with us for many years and lead us to success. I am gutted that he will not be with us but have the utmost respect for the man. He obviously, like many on here, does not believe in RD's 'network' concept, so fair play to him, he stuck to his principles.Red_Pete in Dubai said:
Seth, I've already watched it many times & to me it doesn't come across in that way at all. They are just talking about moving players around the group - which IS one of the core principles of RD's plan - & the SL guy is talking from a SL perspective, so of course he's talking about players moving from Charlton to SL. We've already seen players move the other way & if they had been interviewing anybody else you would have got an alternative perspective.seth plum said:

RD would not pay the best part of 20 million pounds to buy a "feeder" club languishing in Division 1. There are far cheaper ways of setting up a "feeder" club in England, if that was what he actually wanted. Also, as I understand it, RD has already indicated that he would be prepared to sell SL for 60 million Euros, having already turned down an offer of 50 million. So if he does sell it, where would that leave all the other teams in the group if their sole purpose was to "feed" players to SL?
The whole concept is total nonsense & is based on nothing more than two guys talking in a language that is not their first language & therefore subject to misunderstanding.
However, I believe that the plan is innovative and has a good chance of success, although it will take a couple of seasons to see it ... as it did with Standard Liege. RD supports the growth of young players within an internal academy, as do many of us as proven with Valley Gold. Whilst I can see the arguments, and Martin Samuel outlined them very well, I do not accept that the plan is to turn us into a feeder club.
I cannot prove this, and obviously I am not 100% confident that it will work out. But something needs to change in football. Too many clubs are living beyond their means ... it is unsustainable. To be on a safe financial footing, with a group of promising young players coming through seems to me to be the right way forward.
Time will tell, but I am optimistic.
The moment RD purchased the club, I think many of us knew that Chris would not be with us at the end of the season ... unfortunately he has gone even sooner than we would have hoped. It is not the end of this club, just the end of a (wonderful) era. I support Charlton not one man.
Having said that, my eyes are not closed to the possible alternatives which many have highlighted. If indeed I am totally wrong and have misinterpreted RD's plans, and we do become a 'feeder club', I will be as vociferous as anyone in fighting against it. I just do not believe that this is his plan.
And despite everything, I just cannot wait until Saturday ... the perverseness of football might just mean that for once we get the result we need and want at the Den.
I agree with you the plan is innovative. I just can't see how it has a remote chance of being successful for CAFC. (Whether it is successful for RD's empire is another matter).
Almost certainly next season, we will kick off minus Hamer, Morrison and Jackson. If I were Poyet, I'd be off too. Their replacements will be cheap cast-offs from RD's clubs and our entire team will be loanees, more players from our youth team and the likes of Dervite. (Cheap to resign). It's a recipe for disaster.
I can't wait to see Thuram-Ulien play at the Den. He'll get crucified by their fans as he flaps around at cross after cross and continually kicks the ball out of play. The guy will cost us, mark my words. And if he is the standard of loanee we are going to get in, then we are completely *****d.0 -

Was also said there was an interview with Murray and none of it was shown.
The SL director was obviously going to talk about it from their perspective.

'When a good player, not good enough for the first team, and then if he needs some experience, to get some experience he can go to Charlton, and when we have a big talent of Charlton he can come also to Standard liege.'
What is confusing about that?
Not good enough...go to Charlton.
Big talent, come to Standard Liege.
He is not talking generally about players moving around, he talks specifically about his perceived hierarchy of clubs. Good players to Liege, and Charlton as a proving ground for players for the greater good of Standard Liege.
There, in the video, is something, some reality, to actually inform judgements.

This is a very good post. I am not in the pro Duchatalet, but the second a Charlton player gets sold to Standard I will no longer see a point in turning up until he is gone to be honest.SELR_addicks said:The moment a Charlton player moves to Standard.

I am not saying that you are doing this at all Stonemouse, but some people on here do seem to be trying to have it both ways on playing our own young players. On the one hand, they see it as part of the Charlton Way and that our young players are really good and should be supported, on the other hand they also want to say that playing our own young players is just a sign of RD's miserly approach and he should be buying in lots of other players instead.seth plum said:

For me, I would love to see the team full of our own young players, with a few loans/buys mixed in. That would be ideal for me and is a good part of the reason why I am willing to give RD a chance.0 -

Seth, those words are being spoken by somebody who works for Standard Liege!! He is promoting his club & how he envisages the network could work for them. I'm sure if the interview had been with somebody from Charlton the same words would have been said but the clubs would have been switched. It means nothing; it is just somebody talking about how players could potentially be moved within the group to the benefit of Standard Liege, from a SL point of view. Surely you can see that. It is not a strategic statement, just a SL employee enthusing about how the network could work for their benefit. In reality, the network will try to maximize the benefits for all the clubs, not just SL. That is why the network has been established. It is NOT a Standard Liege feeder network.seth plum said:

I loved SCP and would have kept him personally, but I do understand the views of others regarding poor performances. If Roland really cared about our success he would have extended the contracts of Powell, Yann, Stephens and other key players which would have rejuvenated the spirit and with a few smart (not liege drop outs) loan signings we could be in a very different place now. The question I ask myself is why does he care about our success? He doesn't have any passion for our club or a history with it and it isnt even his own expensive hobby he wants to focus on. We are just one of his network so as long as we don't fail miserably or try to succeed by spending then he will be satisfied. We'll probably settle as promotion contenders in League 1 and potentially yo-yo up and down for the next few years and i'm sure he'll settle for that.
As for Riga, well it's hard to respect a man that doesn't even speak to the fans! If he was real chuffed to be here and wants great success, surely he would have attended a press conference like all new managers do and tell us how great the future looks, but no he just slopped into training a couple hours after a man five times his worth had just left.2 -
Another clear point about Roland wanting the best for Charlton, why did he hire Riga? Ok maybe he is thebestman for the job, but that clearly wasn't assessed and other candidates were not interviewed so he's happy enough to just roll the dice with our championship survival not actively seek out the best solution to keep us up. The lady he has put on the board clearly doesn't have a clue, I'm not sexist, I think Karen Brady looks the part at West Ham, but this chick admits she knows nothing. How many boards have people on them who admit to knowing absolutely sod all about the business they're in? Jeez, it's not good and those who think it is need to assess what they really want Charlton to achieve1

Big up...Mortimerician said:No, it disgusts me. I'd like to think that I'd have the strength of character for this to be unaffected by whether it is successful on the pitch, or financially aswell. The club means more to me than a balance sheet or even a league position. Fed up of the whole business, we've been owned by bumblers and wide boys and Ivan put up with that, but this is a bridge too far.

Wonder how long we will have to wait till we a get good one of his players. Reza is a cheap man version of church. Thurman is awful. AA has some quality but doesn't have the pace to get behind and hurt teams.
Need solid professional to stay up not these reserve network players0 -
I don't really care if anybody seeks to counter my points with a bit of abuse.
However I certainly respect Red Pete in Dubaifor his counter argument. To me I don't believe the 'benevolent' take on things at all. I share Seth's fears .....I've spent a bit of time going through fan sites. Riga was certainly unpopular with SL supporters and the situation bears quite a few similarities with us and Chrissy. Duchatelet was said by some to be the one that they needed to blame but the supporters wanted Riga gone. He was removed, I am in little doubt about that. Riga also left the Aspire academy early citing family reasons. His strength is apparently coaching young players. I find it odd that Alex and Damian were not dispatched along with Chrissy. So far, for me, I gain a feeling that we are being set up as a training camp, with the grey man doing the brain training whilst Alex keeps the fixtures going. We will soon know, the need for a striker is glaring, will we get one or be allowed to sink?0

Must admit I was absolutely amazed to arrive last night to find Hamer playing. And pleased.
But after reading reports of our new manager's (sorry, head coach's) press conference last night, still far from convinced all is well.
