Jose Mourinho Talks About Jose Riga

WSS
WSS Posts: 25,121
Mourinho was asked at a press conference today for his thoughts on Riga, and instantly looked puzzled.

The reporter in question tried to jog his memory, but to no avail, with the Chelsea boss simply replying: "Who is he?"

From here.

Interesting. Was it a lie about him going to Real Madrid or was it that Riga's short time there was so uneventful that Mourinho cannot remember him?

Pretty sure he's met a fair few people in football so maybe understandable he doesn't instantly recognise him/his name, still it'll give those that want to moan some more ammo

But the quotes have been that Riga was invited by Mourinho to RM which implies prior knowledge and a wish to work with him. Different to just another bloke working at the same place.

Always fun when someone actually checks what's on a CV...

Contrast that with what Mourinho said about Aitor Karanka
  • Must be Mourinho's mistake as our current board never lie.

Even someone he "personally invited to coach Real Madrid" to quote the club.

have the club ever come out and said he was personally invited by Mourinho? or just journalists?

The quotes were taken from his CV on LinkedIn. He won't be the first to make exaggerated claims that have a very tenuous link with reality. He probably spoke to one of probably 100 or so backroom staff at Real Madrid about his new methodology for training young players and they said yeah we will get you in sometime in the future for a week and see how it works. Obviously on his CV that is 'Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid invited me to take training for a week'

Reminds me of a documentaery many years ago about Micky Duff, the boxing matchmaker, who was giving it the big 'I am' and was filmed phoning Don King.

    MD -'Hi Don, it's Micky'
    DK - 'Micky who?'
    MD - 'Micky Duff'
    DK - 'Micky Duff who?'
  • The only team to have beaten chelsea at home during their 'unbeaten at home under mourinho' phase, is it any wonder anything or anyone connected with charlton draws a blank...

It's a bit like the one I heard on Radio 5 when Portsmouth won the FA Cup. Graham Taylor said something like "Look, here comes David James". He then shouts "Well done, Jamesy, mate", then adds "Oh, he's just walked straight past me".

Perhaps the invitation's envelope was addressed to Riga but had the actual intended recipient's name on the letter? it can happen....

Yeah but Mourinho never remembers being beaten by Charlton at Stamford bridge so i wouldn't trust what he says.

That says more about mourinho than Riga. He would have known he is new Charlton manager.

Don't think anyone cares what Mourinho thinks, this is about what Riga is thinking!

I didn't want to say it when he was appointed, as I want to give it a chance. But it says a lot to me that they invited him to train with cogitraining for a week and then never invited him back...

Don't look too much into that. Mourinho was probably in a mood...a funny mood to take much regard for anyone else.
The whole of English football (well maybe) would have heard of the Powell sacking as it was a big deal for many reasons.
They then would have heard the replacement.
There is an element of humour involved in this dismissal of "He's a nobody", but JM is also just a bit of a d*ck.

mourinho is turning into a right knobhead.

he used to be kind of funny, its all a bit contrived now.

believes too much of his own hype

I have to say ( given my initially positive reaction) that both of the main selling points about Riga now appear to have been overblown and I do have a nagging doubt about why he left Standard? I know he was not the one who was sacked but seems strange to leave a club when he was supposed to being doing so well?

Bit concerned too about if we are going to get even more uncertainty at the end of the season if Riga goes?

He has no affiliation with Charlton and English football. Do yourself a favour and just judge him on the results of this short term period.

Would this be a good time to sing 'Always Look On the Bright side Of Life'? Again!

Oh I will do - not fair otherwise in my opinion. Don't know if there is something genuine to be concerned about or not just this site just seems sooo negative at the mo!

I have left the original message, you can use google translator.
