Large - yes, I have read on a couple of threads (no idea which ones now!) that it was more that they couldn't reach agreement - in fact, Grapevine suggested that the fault lay with both - ie Powell for not accepting the way RD wanted to work.0

It was New York Addick, and that's not what he said! He merely suggested that if CP had been prepared to meet RD halfway then he wouldn't have been sacked. It's not a question of fault/blame - RD has been pretty consistent with his vision for how the club was going to be run in the future. Powell could buy into it, or not, and play the cards accordingly. He has done so. I will second every single comment on here praising Powell as a man and as player, I cannot think of a single person in recent club history who more epitomises Charlton values more than Chris Powell. True but Powell was quoted many times saying that the takeover was a good thing, that he thought RD had a good vision and that he would be stupid not to use the network available to him. I think it's pretty clear he was prepared to buy into it. But perhaps the extent of that was the disagreement...thenewbie said:

They broke the mould after Chris Powell was made. He oozes class and I will always wonder where he could have taken us if he'd had the backing of a board that appreciated just how lucky they were. Huge, huge opportunity missed and that breaks my f**king heart.4

that this is the biggest mistake he has ever made sacking CP.

We will never ever have a manager like him again where the club means so much . Am extremely sad to see him go, just remember to the people that wanted him gone, remember what you wish for . Good luck chris and thanks for a great 3 years, may your next club treat with you the respect you deserve and should of received by us.1

Sadly RD won't understand the enormity of what he's done. You can't run a slide rule over emotions and understanding the ferocity of love that supporters hold for their club requires someone who is dedicated to football. IMO, RD's statistical and, in my opinion, socially maladjusted approach to life will ultimately prove to be his undoing. Football, more than any other business, is about passion and this aspect just passes him by. It's not his fault, it's just who he is and how his brain works.2
