One thing he is saying is he was misundertood, and we are not a feeder club for SL.

Chris Powell was great and he wanted to work with him. Chris did very well and worked well with all the players including the new ones.
RD did what he had to do.
Charlton fans have to look to the future. Charlton is one of the most fantastic clubs in England and it's got to get back to where it belongs.
CAFC not a feeder club as players coming from Liege to Charlton.
Huh, huh, huh, huh quite a bit.
Relationship between CAFC and SL has been 'wilfully misinterpreted'
Various platitudes about players and supporters being important.
Apparently home games are won more often than away games - breaking news there.
The fans of Charlton are very very good fans. He admires them.
    That's it.

He thought Chris Powell was a good manager
We aren't a feeder club, evidenced by Standard players coming here rather than other way round
Charlton are not playing at the right level at the moment
    The fans are important

What most people would have expected him to say (except those who were expecting something along the lines of 'mwahaha, now I shall destroy your club... because I am evil.')

He said Yohan Thuram-Ulien was a goalkeeper he had admired for years and couldn't wait to let him loose in front of the Charlton fans

    New manager.
    New haircut.
    New Roland.
    HuH
  • Content doesn't seem to matter, some will take it verbatim and others will try to read between the lines. This will lead to some seeing it as positive, some as negative.

In the end no one will be any the wiser as to the direction of the club.

There you go, saved you 5 mins!

Will the G21 still continue to look for answers? As what he has said sums everything up perfectly for me.

Personally think there is a bit of a media witch hunt against Roland currently. We'll see in the summer what the real plans are.

With regard to comment on the SL relationship Roland say's:

'this has been misinterpreted, or wilfully or not I don't know'

    Not 'wilfully misinterpreted'

I believe he said, the relationship has been misinterpreted, whether wilfully he doesn't know, and raised his eyebrows a bit. Rather than actually saying that he believes it has been wilfully misinterpreted.

Good that he's doing these video's and I hope he keeps it up.

Also pleased that it is Youtube as available to a big number of fans.

Also he comes over well especially as he is speaking in his second or third language. More than we ever saw of Silent Tone for sure.

Pleasing to hear the praise for Powell as a coach and person but it left the obvious question hanging ie "why did you sack him then?"

The clarification on the feeder club issue was good and he made a point of addressing what has been raised as an area of concern so that means he has been listening/reading what is being said. I personally never bought the feeder club idea but it was a concern for many so right to address it. They will have say whether it stops their fears or not.

Still a lot that went unmentioned though. Nothing about Riga and what he brings. The Academy? The business plan? The Pitch? The threat of relegation? The long term aim (other than Charlton are at the wrong level but every new owner will say that about a club) or even the museum. And I'm not even going to mention the E*** S*****.

OK, it was one video and he can't realistically cover every issue from every fan at the same time but there is a lot more to be asked and answered, for me at least.

The SCP sychronised bum licking squad will be pulling apart each interview for any reason to speculate, hyperventilate and postulate we can be sure.

There is a clear divide in the support regarding pro/anti CP, there is no need to pre-empt peoples judgements and perhaps provoke a response. It's very obvious those who are anti-CP are pro RD and almost vica verca, which is a very strange situation

He's done three more videos/ interviews than the last crowd. If he keeps this rate of one a month then this shows he has learnt from the Liege experience. And, as pointed out, this one is free. Things might not work out but I seriously doubt he lacks integrity. Only stupid and/or shifty people lie and then get found out.
On the question of Powell it is clear he had a view on our chances with / without Powell and call was they were better without. "time will tell" but not long to kick off :)

Whether WE as fans like it or not, RD is running a (very expensive) business here...he believes that he has a strategy for success - ie promotion to Prem - Why would any business shout about their plans and strategies giving their competitors ideas. I believe that throwing money at promotion is a much bigger gamble, and recipe for disaster as we compete against richer clubs + parachute money each year. Therefore, we need to be cuter about how we attempt it. Academy investment, and borrowing decent players from a Champions League team sounds pretty good to me.
  • Does anyone know who is actually making these videos - is it the club or RD's empire?

Either way it's very slick PR. And as such, I'm not sure I'd read too much into what he says here.

Never been anti CP just found the cult following on here very creepy. Seems now that the great man has departed his nemasis(?) is now copping some serious stick for basically not putting a foot wrong yet.

I'm in neither camp but the anti-CP is equally as creepy if not more so, the man has put a lot of blood sweat and tears into our club, so we respect that and move on, not hate on the man and cheer on everything that is different to him. :-)

Nice interview that hopefully puts to bed once & for all the ridiculous story that Charlton will be a feeder club for SL. He obviously has a huge amount of respect for CP too, but the reasons he felt he had to sack him will remain between the two of them - as it should.

I make no secret of the fact that I feel we are lucky to have an owner like RD. He is a very rich man & he has already invested a lot of money into the club. He makes no secret of the fact that he wants Charlton to be successful, but he is going to try to achieve it in a different way.

Football finance has to change if the professional game is to have a future, and the new FPP rules have already attempted to stop owners incurring huge debt & huge losses while trying to buy success. RD's desire for Charlton to break-even is admirable & with the support of the resources in his "network" we have a great chance to restore the club to former glories.

Personally, I am really excited by RD's vision & he and Katrien have my full support in attempting to do something different to make Charlton a great team again.

I'm sure the naysayers will find something new to moan about after this interview, which is their choice. I've been 100% behind RD from the start, however, & this interview only confirms my initial thoughts that the next two or three years are going to be an exciting time for Charlton fans. COYA.
