Happy to hear what he has to say on the club direction and plans. That said i'd appreciate a bit more honesty, like,

"i'm only going to get in loan players this season, until i know what league we're in next season, so i don't offer over the top wages for next season or two."
    or
"i will run Charlton on a shoestring and spend as little as possible, because the business model is to break even at whatever cost, which could mean selling more valuable assets at a later stage if required!"

I'm not anti RD, just anti anyone that wants to run our club into Division One if it is cheaper to run.

    Worrying.
How on earth can some totally fictional quotes be worrying? Just weird.
Leave off. I took them at face value. Didn't know they were fictional. So before you start judging...

Some people really love jumping on the back of peoples comments.

He doesn't like criticism so wards it off by attacking the motives of his critics rather than answering the substantive questions. That' s his choice and if he wants to communicate with supporters by means of a press conference that's his choice as well. It's a hearts and minds battle but I am not yet won over as basically it's what he does and not what he says that will persuade either way.

So we're not a feeder club and the manager isn't a puppet.

What things can we invent to moan and worry about now?

we're not a feeder club, but Liege is our feeder club, hmmm. Taking all Liege's rejects seems actually to support that we are still their feeder club

I think he was saying how can people say we are a feeder club when we have 4 liege players, if anything it would be the other way around. I dont think he was saying 'charlton will have lieges players' just simply making a point to show that we are not a feeder club
  • Trouble is RD is right when he says... Charlton players will have the opportunity to go to Liege if they want to

Its like that Ibrahima Cissé we were linked with in January... He plays for Liege yet when asked if he wanted to come to us on loan he said no and that was the end of it... RD didnt force him to and I imagine it'll be the same of our players

This. Players aren't slaves that can be shipped off to Liege at a whim. If they don't want to go RD can't do anything about it.

This hasnt changed my thoughts on Roland and what he hopefully wants to achieve at the club.Just sick to death of all the negative stories about him and the Powell love in brigade! Powell was and is a Charlton legend but was only taking us into League One and a change was needed.
  • The silence from the doom and gloom brigade is deafening........... (admittedly all probably on their way to a game, or in another secret meeting- but like them, I've decided not to let the facts get in the way)

Given that anything anyone says will be jumped on, what's the point?

    I think it's good he's done a video.
Airman, I know you can't speak for the other signatories from the Valley Party but can you say if this video is going to be sufficient to satisfy your concerns that brought the group together?

I know what he was saying, but if they were our feeder club we would have their best players not their rejects, so its not a valid argument in my humble opinion.

Not sure I agree. SL are top of their country's top division - we are/were bottom of our country's 2nd division. If it were the other way around then I would expect SL to be feeding us some of their best players.

If there is criticism it is RD and his advisors at SL underestimating the quality required in our second tier.

The silence from the doom and gloom brigade is deafening........... (admittedly all probably on their way to a game, or in another secret meeting- but like them, I've decided not to let the facts get in the way)

I haven't watched the video yet as I'm at work but whatever he's said, if you're suggesting a youtube statement has suddenly transformed the situation and outlook for the club then you're deluded. I'll judge him on his actions to date, almost all of which have been detrimental to the club so far in my view. We have a worse team than when he came in, are in a worse league position, already getting worse crowds, have a worse manager (or less suitable, in my view anyway), and have swapped a 500k talismanic striker for one who it seems would struggle to get into the John Roan school first XI.

I don't care if he's said he's close to agreeing terms with Lionel Messi. I'll cut him some slack when we've survived relegation, got Poyet tied down to a new deal, and signed somebody who I've either heard of, or who has demonstrated on the pitch for us that they are actually a professional footballer and not one of his recently out-of-work family friends.
Along with most, I haven't made up my mind about RD. How could any sensible person ?

However, let's deal in facts please.

1 I don't think our team is now worse. Poyet is better than Stephens (this may be luck for RD, but he is).

Tudgay, Obika & Reza, together at least make up for losing Kermorgant.

I'd hazard a guess that overall we are paying less wages & have banked @£1M.

2 League position is about the same.

3 Crowds maybe slightly down, but Hudds & Bournemouth are not exactly attractive.

4 Worse manager ? It's only 3 games, but on the 3 games I'd have to disagree.

    5 He's spending £800K on a Desso pitch (allegedly).

6 He's put in a planning application for a new building at Sparrow's Lane for the academy, 1st team & community trust, with a view to obtaining Cat 1 status eventually.

7 Most of the S/T prices have gone down (from an already cheap position).

Based on FACTS, he is actually well in credit & he is winning me over.

He may turn out to have plans that fail badly, but at least he has a plan.

    Let's wait & see.

Not that I'm at all cynical but, I wonder much that interview was contrived because of last nights attendance of 13,537.

Considering it was in fact recorded early last week I don't think yesterday's attendance affected the content much!
  • C'mon Roland, you need to get the supporters on board, actions speak louder than words, get Hamer, Poyet , Dervitte and Morrison signed up on new contracts by Friday please.

Did he actually say anything? Only a few mocks re feeder club etc in remarkably similar terms to the Roland fans on here. Huh. A carefully choreographed video means nothing. Only time and actions will tell.

Touche. But I think he would have done an interview and said the same things even if it had been a sell out crowd.

    N

The SCP sychronised bum licking squad will be pulling apart each interview for any reason to speculate, hyperventilate and postulate we can be sure.

There is a clear divide in the support regarding pro/anti CP, there is no need to pre-empt peoples judgements and perhaps provoke a response. It's very obvious those who are anti-CP are pro RD and almost vica verca, which is a very strange situation
Never been anti CP just found the cult following on here very creepy. Seems now that the great man has departed his nemasis(?) is now coping some serious stick for basically not putting a foot wrong yet.
I'm in neither camp but the anti-CP is equally as creepy if not more so, the man has put a lot of blood sweat and tears into our club, so we respect that and move on, not hate on the man and cheer on everything that is different to him. :-)
There's the pro SCP and the pro CAFC camp, I'm in the latter camp as for me when SCP was the Guv, I gave him my support, the 3 minute applause was for mea watershed, now we move forward with Riga and the club as the latter is always bigger than any individuals...

On the back of a terrible performance in front of 5,300 travelling fans and thousands on TV, who were right royally pissed off.

Poor performances lead to drop in attendances shock.....
  • I like rd and I like his thought process?
I like the the fact he thinks you have to build and bond a side and it has to work financially?
To many foreign football club owners think if you throw money at the club it will bring u success
I think we are lucky to have rd on board?
Just think venkys and you might just agree with me?

Poyet isn't going to sign his old man thinks he's off to barcelona at the end the season!

I'll take blackburns finishing position over ours each season till either owner disappears
