Francis Jeffers for England: 1 app, 1 goal. 100% scoring record. You can fiddle about with the stats all you want, it doesn't prove much

Yes, I think that is who he means! Too many people read the sun or listen to commentators. You can make the case that Torres isn't as good as he was, but ridiculous to say he isn't still a great striker! And 22 goals is impressive - unless you choose to discount perfectly good goals so that it proves your point!

that makes no sense whatsoever, how have i fiddled the stats, it clearly states that marvin sordell have a better mins to goal ration than church?

before the last manager left (some bloke called Chris) Sordell was chuff. Since a new manager has been appointed (Jose, Jose, Jose, Jose) then he has looked a completely different player (imo). Confidence is a wonderful thing and necessary for a striker. Not saying he's been brilliant but at least now there are signs as to what he can do. He may even score a goal soon. I'd start him up top with Obikaaaaaaa tomorrow.

Sordell and Church have both been pony for us so far.

Doesn't mean they will continue to be pony for us, or elsewhere once they move on (a la Mooney).

But there is no point denying that so far they have both been huge letdowns, and our lack of goals is the primary reason we are scrapping at the bottom.

Sordell has potential to be better.

Can't really say the same for Church. I never understood football fans' love for aimless running. For such an important position, we cannot stick with a guy without an ability to shoot.

I haven't really been able to get straight in my mind why we don't score goals. I'm certainly not convinced it's all been down to the strikers. We don't (didn't?) create very much.

I do think that Sordell has much more in his locker than we've so far seen and it's not a case of who's the better coach Powell or Riga. It's a pointless debate. But they do things differently as I think most of us have noticed that already in terms of starting 11's, tactics and substitutions.

Fact is one manager may get the best out of player x while another manager may get the best out of player y. Let's hope that Riga manages to get the best out of Sordell (and Church and Reza for that matter) and we stay up. I think at his best Sordell could be very useful to us in this run in. An in form Sordell and Obika would be a serious threat to most teams at this level.

  • Sordell and Church have been overall total poo.

Its a thread of who is worse and not who is better. What a sad position we are in.

Might have the potential/quality, but perhaps Sordell just dosen't have the commitment. Powell didn't think much of him, hardly started him in his time here. (despite CP bringing him in)

You need to move on. We all know you loved Powell but he's gone.

Great that you are still loyal to SCP and want one of his signings to come good but get a grip

I can see Sordell improving. I can't see that with Church.

Church is gradually working his way into the Llera & Francis pony players club.

Powell thought enough of him to bring him in - it is just that he disapointed. I think there is sufficient evidence to suggest there is a player in there and recent games have backed that up. Having that player turn up would be very nice thank you at this important stage of the season.

If Church shoots lamely from outside the box one more time I'm going to hunt him down and chop his legs off. For that reason, I'd start Sordell
  • Could it be that Sordell didn't perform or even give his best under Powell, because he didn't like Powell's style of football ? IMO our forwards were not seeing enough of the ball. It's very hard to show what you can do, if you're not seeing the ball for large periods of the game. Perhaps he is now seeing hope that he will be given the chance to display his ability and as such is prepared to put in the effort.

Got to be time to give Sordell a proper run. Sponge foots back pass when clean through today is just one time too many. Why can't he put his foot through the ball?!

Has to too be done, i know you all think Church is better than Sordell but at least Marvin can hit the fecking ball. Church is so powder puff why o why do we keep playing him, its not as if he holds the ball up.
All he does is run and run.

Riga has got to make a decision and stick with it to the end of the season. Who ever is top 2 or top 1 and just play them to the end of the season and give them a chance to hit form.

Would just play Obika and keep sordell on the bench. He's better than church buts he shit

Whilst agreeing with starting with Marvin the bigger issue is the lack of ball in the final third. We seem at best to gsve good play in midfield but whoever our strikers are they have few clear cut opportunities. Is it 9 games without a goal from open play ... says it all really.
