Didn't Katrien or was it CP who hinted that Ben was keen to leave because of a medical issue at the VIP Q&A at the Valley?

Whatever it is, it doesn't sound good.
Best of luck Ben. I'm not sure if there is anything the club could/would do to help, but then again I guess it depends on what the problem actually is.1 -

So his agent knew he was ill/there was a big problem with him, but was pushing our owners for a new deal?0 -
That is certainly not what CP or KM said at the meeting.
CP explained that BAs agent was pressing for a deal. He then went on to say he didn't know why Ben wasn't playing saying "I think he is ill, don't know the in's and outs"
Whether Ben or the Agent knew about the situation at that time or only after the move to Orient I don't know but CP and KM certainly never said or implied that that was the case.1 -
BUT someone might have mentioned something along these lines at the wink wink, nudge nudge Trust meeting in the City.Henry Irving said:That is certainly not what CP or KM said at the meeting.

Besides, with all due respect, I would imagine any employee or his agent/representative to look to secure a deal asap if they knew of something that might affect it.Henry Irving said:That is certainly not what CP or KM said at the meeting.

The same is true of many transactions. I have lost count of the number of people that have told me they are selling their car because something expensive is about to go wrong and they are hoping that the buyer won't realise. I have no issue with Ben or his Agent looking to secure a deal, besides it's also possible that he just didn't want the last transfer window, before his contract finished, to close with him having nothing secured long term.
Either way I have no interest in speculating what Ben's personal issue is, nor if he attempted to secure himself some financial security before it became public. I just wish him all the best with whatever it is that he is facing.1 -

agent pressing for a new deal because of this, he's honestly doing his job and trying to protect his client. Obviously the club would probably find a way out of the contract when the health issues became apparent but it would give him an income whilst he was ill.0

So what are you saying? Was it said that CAFC knew and wilfully sold Orient a player we knew couldn't play? Have Orient asked for the transfer fee back?Im_Jordans_Cousin said:

What they said at the VIP meeting was the reason for the recruitment of Thuram was partly influenced by the fact that both goalkeepers Alnwick and Hamer were out of contract in the summer.
They then indicated that Alnwick's agent played hard ball over a new contract and gave them 'hours' to make a decision. What I find curious about the whole affair is the speed in which it happened. Orient only needed to recruit a Keeper because Jackopovic was recalled to Hull because the Tigers goalie had been sent off the previous night ,at this point they would have been desperate and remember Alnwick did play one game for them on the Saturday.
I was under the impression that we might have got a modest fee for him ,but what confused me was that the O's only offered him a deal until the end of the season which was the same as we had done.0 -

Apologies but I thought this was the thread where I had previously expressed my best wishes towards Ben, but if I recall correctly that thread was closed due to precisely the kind of speculation that's been deleted in this thread.

However, I politely suggest that if you were offended by that then you look elsewhere. I don't see my comments anywhere near the bar set by other threads, and I actually think that drudging up the poor guys past and insinuating they could be linked is both more personal and more disrespectful.

For the avoidance of doubt I did not "drudging up the poor guys past and insinuating they could be linked", I presume that relates to comments made by others.
Each individual has decide what is and is not appropriate. However your original remark about "teach our strikers how to score" in relation to an incident where, it was stated in the media, that a teenaged girl was allegedly the victim of a very serious crime, was in my opinion in poor taste.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe that what happened with that girl was deemed 'criminal'. Just inappropriate for a professional footballer to be caught doing.SheffieldRed said:

Which is odd considering that Alnwick was only signed on a one year deal anyway, it's not as if Hamer and Alnwick are unique players that would be hard to replace (which isn't knocking them as keepers) and we've got Pope who's clearly highly rated, and should be good enough to be No 2 next season.Richard J said:What they said at the VIP meeting was the reason for the recruitment of Thuram was partly influenced by the fact that both goalkeepers Alnwick and Hamer were out of contract in the summer.

I'm not quite sure it ever was stated like that in the media. That link earlier is the first time I've seen that age mentioned - and I suspect it's bullshit purely because that video is still on mainstream websites. If the age was correct it wouldn't be on those sites, and if it was the subject of a criminal investigation - ditto.
Also, if you're pondering the incident 18 months later then no - I wouldn't joke about that, but that was neither mentioned in this thread nor was it ever linked to that video. Thats something that should be ignored right now as it's precisely what I mean by drudging up the past.
I suggest we leave it there, this isn't the time or the place. I made a stupid one liner, which I've apologised for. I suspect you may be confusing the video with something else - which is what I've said I wanted to avoid as it was always going to be a slippery slope in to that territory.0 -
What started off as a nice supportive thread for a former player who has health issues directly or indirectly affecting his career and personal life and now it seems we have gone into playground phase with bickering and play ground spats.
I for one would like to return the thread to its original tone and perhaps the bickering could go to a seperate thread.
I wish all the best to Ben and his family. Would it be possible to produce a thread wishing him the best and have it passed to him .. maybe via Johnny Jackson, so he realises that he has our wishes and suport.4 -
