Royal Visits

With the Reading 'Royals' the visitors tomorrow, what members of the royal family have you had the pleasure / displeasure / indifference to meet ?

Had The Queen, Prince Philip, Prince William and Prince Andrew visit my desk in work over the years. Never got to speak to any of them bit did of huge amount of pretending to look busy when i was supposed to, and very positive smiling and fawning when i was supposed to.

The Queen just oozed class and looked wonderful, as a huge royalist it was a pleasure to have been in such close company with her.

What encounters have you had ?

Royal Albert Hall around 92-93ish, Quo playing for Princes Trust. Prince Charles was in attendance.
Anyway we were in one of the boxes, I decided to pop out to the Kharzi, walking briskly/jogging to the loo, I looked behind then ahead only to walk straight into HRH Charlie, I had walked straight past his security whilst not looking where I was going! I said 'sorry mate' he said 'something along the lines of 'its no problem' and I went of for a slash!
Absolutely bizarre 2 mins of my life. I bet his security got a bollocking.

I was working at The Royal naval College in Greenwich way back just before Andrew married Fergie. Prince Andrew was attending the college on a daily basis doing some sort of naval course, his private Jag used to sweep in the gates in the morning and rush him out in the evening.

We were on a tight schedule on the job and my boss asked if I could work late and commission a small fire alarm panel in one of the blocks before I went home, needing the overtime I agreed.

One of the reasons I did agree was because we had a great team of electricians installing the fire alarm systems, so much so they even trimmed all the cables up in the panel, dressed them in to look neat and connected them so assuming this would be the case I thought I would rock up, turn it on, test the smoke detectors and be home at a reasonable time.

Wrong.......I opened the panel in the reception of the block at approx. 17.00 and as I did so all the cables tumbled out like a ball of spaghetti, I was gutted as it would mean I would be working well into the early hours.

As I was standing there scratching my head wondering what I had let myself in for a mans voice behind me said "that looks complicate for this time of night" to which I replied before turning around "You can say that again, I have been fucked big time"

When I did turn round I was faced with a grinning Prince Andrew and one step behind him a security guard trying to stifle his laughter. My face must have looked a picture all I could muster after that was "Ooops" before the door opened and the security guard ushered Andrew out into his waiting Jag.

The Queen and Prince Philip came to my workplace (Lloyds of London) last week.

She oozed class, and there were thousands in the room that love her.

I love The Queen. Not so sure about the rest of them...

  • The Queen and Prince Philip visited Lloyd's of London last week, to a rousing reception, which they both appeared to genuinely enjoy. The place was absolutely rammed! I got within a metre of both but by the end of the visit those without a great view were climbing up on chairs and desks in the main trading floor - I've never seen anything like it!

Princess Anne pre her meeting the PM of China on his first state visit. He stayed at our hotel (took the whole hotel over) didnt want any mirrors all chandeliers had to be removed( had they seen Fools and horses?)and refused to have ANY women staff deal with any request (socialism in action). Invited to tea at the Chinese Embassy to say thanks for all our hard work.

How much study does a navel take ?

I met Prince Charles when I was about three. He was on an official visit in the park opposite the flats I used to live in as a kid in Deptford. Apparently I cried when he spoke to me, and farted quite loudly after he moved on. Sounds legit.

I was lucky enough to serve as an RAF Policeman on 'The Queen's Flight' at RAF Benson back in the early 90s and flew all over the place with pretty much all members of the Royal Family over a 3 year period. I have literally just left the RAF after 28 years service and I must say, it was a real honour and privilege to have undertaken such a Job. My favourites - Diana of course but Princess Alexandra (Queen's cousin) was a really genuine lady. Got short shrift off Princess Margaret once at Manchester Airport for not having her umbrella at the ready when she got out of her car to board the aircraft; even though it was not my job!
  • I got to say hello to Prince Charles when he came to open our new building at work (which he pointedly described as an 'extension' in his speech).

I couldn't get over how short he was as I always thought of him as a tall man.

The Queen officially opened the building I work in and I saw her from a distance.

Camilla was also in here as well last year as my company were doing some work with Baranardo's which she is heavily involved with.

She was very pleasant and polite but she really is an ugly horse faced old hag, I bet Charlie boy lasts f***ing ages when he's hammering away.

The Queen got driven past me along Dorking High Street about 10 years ago. I looked over with disinterest and carried on eating my KFC.

But I did see Dianna's funeral car from a bridge on the M1 in Watford. I knew that I was watching history unfold.

HER Maj. delicately raised a gloved hand in greeting to a load of drunken scruffs who raised their glasses to her as the Roller trundled past The Clock House pub in Clapham during her tour of South London back in '77. I happened to be amongst them.
  • Been in the royal box in the royal Albert hall. They weren't there!
  • I've never met any of them, but have seen Prince Andrew and Prince Charles. I also saw the Queen Mum when she visited Coventry Cathedral with Helmut Kohl. 50 years on from the German bombing raid there.

I had Prince Charles's car pull out of my way when i was on blue lights going into the old pumping station in Erith a few years ago. As we were driving up the approach road, we were wondering why there was a load of Police all over the place, and then all of a sudden, a big black limo appeared, and pulled over onto the side of the road. When we got into the building, we asked what was going on and was told Charles was re-opening the newly restored building.

I never met any of the Royal family but my youngest daughter met and spoke to the Queen and my eldest daughter met and had a long chat with Prince Edward at her history society. She is also on the junior panel of the Imperial War Museum and are planning future events to include William or Harry as guests of honour.

I was introduced to Prince Phillip when he came to do the official opening of our new office block in Belfast. It was just after the ceasefire but the place was swarming with armed police, special branch and sniffer dogs. Surprised how short he is - as he is always photographed next to Her Maj, who must be all of 5 foot, I thought he was tall.

Met Princess Anne just yesterday. The second time with her and I've been to a lunch hosted by the queen and Philip.
