Hate to say it but you could end up with a Kim Grant scenario here, which I had hoped I would never experience again, if it goes tits up on Tuesday and he plays like he did today.

He is pretty poor . The most frustrating thing is his ability in the air . He's pretty tall but never wins anything in the air unless no ones challenging him. Today he made a couple of headers and got sarcastic cheers . How longs his contracts for does anyone no ?

Todays apprearance triggered a 20 year extension, with the promise of first team football for its duration.

The club recognises that he will lose his pace in circa 4 years time, but class is permanent.

Kellogs will be running their competition "Who wants to be a footballer?" again this summer. Simply collect 10 tokens from the cereal packets and you too can become a professional football player like last years winner, Simon church from Amersham...............
  • Enough is enough now.must not play again this season surely.how he was picked yesterday above obika Reza or Sordell is beyond me.I'm walking out Tuesday if he starts and I thought I'd never say that in my 30 years supporting Charlton.

I watched Church closely today and he doesn't actually hassle defenders. He shuffles around them but never puts his boot in to let them know that he is prepared to kick the shite out of them if they hold onto the ball. Contrast that with their front man Pogrebnyak who flattened anyone in a red shirt when he needed to.

    This.
And when he does receive the ball he does feck all. He makes me laugh when he points to our midfielders to pass the ball into space.

The perfect word to sum up Church's performance was ineffective. Tactically, the decision to play him up top alone was a poor one. The most annoying thing for me was when he made no effort to get back onside, for what could have been one of our best opportunities of the match.

Very surprised he lasted the full 90 minutes yesterday. Surely he can't start ion Tuesday night.

He must have some sort of blackmail material, it can't be a footballing reason.

Reza gets a wonder goal at Leeds in a team that cannot score. He is an Iran national hero though has yet to convince most at SE7.

So start the next game with Church and bring on the goal scoring hero on as a left-half late in the second half.

If a certain other manager had done that there would have been an outcry

Because we wrote off today's game in order to give it both barrels against Yeovil according to some....?!
I thought we wrote off today's game by picking him upfront on his own. Don't know why though as it has nothing to do with Yeovil. If we were saving ourselves for them we would have rested people like JJ who have an excuse if they are tired, not Reza, Sordell, Obika, Piggy etc

Truly dreadful player. A Reading fan told me when he signed that he was League One level. I genuinely think he is worse than that. And not even a striker. Infact I don't know what he could do on a football pitch of any use.

Fork the pitch at half time? Mind you, with his sponge foot he probably couldn't push the fork into the ground....

  • Surely Obika and Sordell have to start up front against Yeovil on Tuesday night?

Might be that you go to church to confess your sins.

Simple, squad rotation, preserving players for the more important game Tuesday!

I'm glad we've already won on Tuesday then.

Far too much loyalty shown to an absolute poor player.

Reza scores a screamer against Leeds and doesn't even get to start.

    Typical negative tactics.

    Powell out.
  • Would rather have Pritchard or Hughesy playing up front than Church.
Just shows how bad he is!

Izale McLeod was definitely worse than Church

Agreed. Church looked ok when he first joined and took his two goals in the Oxford Cup Tie really well, scored a well taken goal v Donny in the rained off game and another good finish at Blackburn. I know he's been poor for a while but the lone striker role in a struggling team would knock the bollocks out of most people. He shouldn't start too many more games but I'd definitely have him as a sub for some energy late on and he might even be better suited to playing out wide with his work rate and some ability to cut in from the wing.

I wonder if Riga gave him a full game hoping that he'd be fired up to show his old team exactly what he can do. I don't know if he was fired up, be he certainly showed them alright :-(
Still, they can sleep easy now, knowing that they didn't let a gem slip through their fingers.

Having a bad player up front only serves to feed other players insecurities, hence the lack goals scored this season.
  • He has been poor as of late but he is our second highest scorer to when Ketmit was with us..... :/

Top scorers 7 and 8 goals, it is poor though.
  • I've tried to be supportive of anyone pulling on a Charlton shirt, but was Saturday's match Church's last game for Charlton?

I just feel sorry for him and us. We are all victims of happenstance. But I did wonder if he has a spinal injury, who was it some years back that got torn to shreds for not jumping and he turned out to have a cracked vertebra?

It's embarrassing for him that we are basically questioning if he is disabled he is that crap in the air.
