My dads a leicester fan and so is his dad (who strangely died today as well, about 2 minutes after I made my first post in this thread...). As a result I've never had this kind of generational thing with Charlton, but I take my younger brother (10 years younger) and I can't wait to take my son when I'm older.

The thought of my children and grandchildren remembering me every time they watch charlton is something that I would love.

Like Len says I can imagine every time you go to the valley you will remember him, and he will be remembered by you forever through that, as your kids will do one day with you!

    Sincere condolences rr.

Anyone in Sidcup between 1-2 this afternoon who saw a funeral with carriage and two black horses resplendent with red and white plumes and lots of red and white flowers. That was my Dads and Man at Millets brother.
    Another old Addick gone.

So sorry for your loss robroy. Your Grandad obviously shared some wonderful times with you, your brother and dad and that photograph is a great one to remember.

May he Rest in Peace, watching over you all and our team.

Condolences also to you both, Huskaris and Baldybonce. A sad time for you all, but always remember the good times you shared with your loved ones.

Condolences from far away on your loss, and thank you for your posts. What a wonderful photo of you and your family as well. I'm sure that's in a prominent place in your home. Your Grandad has excellent style too...he's wearing my scarf in that photo!

Live, love, laugh and be happy is so true.

Thoughts with you, and your families. I know how hard it is to lose those close but they will always be Addicks. Will be thinking of them both tomorrow even though I have never met them.
  • I have every sympathy for what you are feeling Robroy. I too was introduced to a lifelong love of Charlton Athletic by my grandad and we shared many happy hours at The Valley together. When he got sick and I would visit him at home and towards the end in hospital the first thing we would talk about was always CAFC and our relationship was all the more special for it as no one else in the family was an Addick.

I cherish those shared moments with 'Pop' and wouldn't swap them for a lifetime of success on the pitch for the team. If you're anything like me you'll always associate the team running out to The Red, Red Robin with the shared times with your grandad and in time your pain will pass to be replaced with the years of fond memories instead.

All the best to you and your family at this sad time.

Sorry for your loss mate, I was the chap that saw your brother HalifaxAddick following the Hudds FA Cup game then unbelievably we ended up sitting next to each other at Sheff Utd game what's the chances of that...great family picture and I'm sure you'll cherish the times you had together....I lost my own granddad in 1994, I saw him last as we parted after winning the FA Cup match at Blackburn on 8/2/94, I'll never forget him...football brings us closer together my thoughts with you and your family...

Just seen this and wanted to add my condolences to robroy, Huskaris and Baldybonce.

robroy - great relationships have to work both ways. He was obviously a wonderful grandad but you must equally have been a wonderful grandson for you both to have such a close relationship. I'm very sorry for your loss. Remember all the good times, especially at the valley. I am 100% sure that he treasured those times as much as you will now. Hope we can get 3 points for grandad tomorrow.

Also condolences to Huskaris and Baldybonce. The reality of death, particularly to lose a parent....well, I can't imagine how painful that must be. In fact it scares me just thinking about it...

Best wishes to you both :)
