Would Powell have kept us up?

Flash poll.

In my opinion, no. What do you guys think?

I have to be honest and say no. The one thing that Riga seems to have over Powell is a willingness to change it when it's not working. How many times have we bemoaned Powell's late and pointless substitutions? Riga seems willing to risk a defeat to try for a win whereas Powell was much more cautious and defensive.

Tactically I think Riga has the edge over Powell. Not in a huge way, but he was somehow able to squeeze a tiny bit extra from our players to cobble together the points we needed to stay up.

If he had kept us up , what do you think he would've said in his speech ?

I liked SCP but I am becoming bored with the constant debate about him now.

With the benefit of hindsight , I think that the decision to remove him after Sheffield United was probably the right one.

    yes

But this is a pointless thread that has the potential to belittle the achievements of a Charlton legend and great man

If he had kept us up , what do you reckon would've been his team to face Blackpool ?

If we had Jose Mourinho rather than Jose Riga, would he have kept us up? Would we have gone down oif Tony Pulis had been given the job last November, or would we have made the play-offs? What if Max Gradel had signed on loan, or Johnny Williams, or any one of the the other significant signings Richard Murray suggested were coming to The Valley in January - would we have stayed up or gone down?

According to multiverse theory there is an alternate reality in which Chris Powell remained manager and kept us up. There is also one where he remained manager and took us down. There is also one where cafc never existed etc etc. So no need to speculate further, it's all happened somewhere.

Yes, No, Who knows, Who cares.
    People need to move on.
CP got the team winning well towards the end of last season and our position was skewed by games in hand.
