So many good films to pick from.
I've just brought this up around the dinner table and remembered cast away, the kid and Wolf of Wall Street, all of which would both be in my top 10

I am on Holiday at the moment some light hearted comedy is the genre to the fore, likely to change as the mood changes.

You sound just like my dad. Where's Passport to Pimlico and the Box of Delights?
Would be in if we had a top ten but out when I am back at work.

in no particular order... a 5th one doesn't jump out as much as these 4 which are just complete and utter masterpieces of the craft.

Walking past Tonbridge School yesterday reminded me that David Sherwin's brutal experiences there inspired him to write the screenplay for 'If...', directed by Lindsay Anderson and released in 1968. I've already nominated my Top Five, but 'If...' is certainly bubbling under.

I had no idea it was tonbridge school that influenced the screenplay, but agreed, blinding film and brilliant film maker.

Tonbridge School is widely quoted (Wikipedia!) as being the inspiration for 'If...', though it was filmed at Lindsay Anderson's alma mater, Cheltenham College (he didn't tell the governors what the film was about). Agree with you: it's a terrific film, and inspired the rebel in me at St Dunstan's College in the early 1970s.

i watched it after my stint at private boarding school. Always enjoyed playing st dunstan's school at cricket though, the only ground with a city atmosphere i've ever played at which was really refreshing when every weekend youre playing in a field next to a farm.

For those lifers who have nominated Shawshank redemption.......
How many of you saw it at the cinema? I think most people, like me, have only seen it on DVD.
