May I be so bold as to bring to your attention two books I have just had published by Pitch Publishing (the company that also published my 'Charlton Athletic On This Day' and the 'Charlton Athletic Miscellany' which some of you may be familiar with.)
These are two books about the FA Cup Final and my view that - despite what Arsenal fans may tell you - the competition is a pale imitation of what it used to be.
As part of an ongoing project I have traced hundreds of fans scattered around the globe and asked them about their FA Cup Final experiences. The first volume 'From Barry Stobart to Neil Young'; is about the 1960s and the second - 'From Ronnie Radford to Roger Osborne' is about the 70s. Both are subtitled 'When the FA Cup Really Mattered.'
They interweave the FA Cup Finals of yesteryear with details of fans' lives, what they were doing at the time and their relationships with their clubs then and now. This is portrayed before a backdrop of all my other favourite things like films, music, politics and current affairs.
Both are available on Amazon.
More details are at www.matteastley.co.uk
I am a season ticket holder in the west upper and I also have a couple more Charlton books in the pipeline so watch this space.........
