Did they get his name right in that?Kap10 said:
On the other hand an email has been sent to all staff members advising them of Powells departure and whilst I would not put us as important as his colleagues, to avoid rumour speculation a release should have been put on the website to either coincide with this or held for a short period of time only.Swisdom said:
If it is not finalised, signed, sealed & delivered then the club can't say anything - otherwise you end up with a sort-of Hangeland situation at FulhamKap10 said:What is wrong is again we hear this through the media, tittle tattle and gossip.
When it's safe to announce I dare say it will be announced and the praise can roll in1 -

That is disgusting if true.Airman Brown said:A number of non-football staff were put formally at risk of redundancy last month and the consultation period has now come to an end. I'm told Paddy was one of them and that he has now been issued with redundancy paperwork made out to "Chris Powell".

Who would've done that I am sure it would have been some poor admin person on a shit wage
These things happen it sounds like a genuine mistake0 -
Well I hope that is not true,?Swisdom said:I heard he was asked to only take care of the training ground and to take a pay cut. Or redundancy. Maybe this was a way of getting around forcing a retirement (thus actually doing him a favour before anyone jumps on the I Hate RD bandwagon)
Maybe he took redundancy - bit of cash in his pocket.
It's true his health wasn't the greatest though so wish him all the best
What sort of way is that to treat a respected player and loyal member of the staff.
If Paddy was having health issues, then I do hope there is an amicable arrangement.
I would expect that of CAFC.......

Oh well that complete cock on twitter who was demanding his sacking after the called off game got his wish. Absolute bell end.
Oh dear. Wish him well in his retirement or whatever it is and thanks for everything.1 -
I am sure it was but sometimes these things are symptomatic of low morale within an organisation.nth london addick said:Who would've done that I am sure it would have been some poor admin person on a shit wage

My employer has been known to make similar mistakes, and you're probably right about the admin staff thing. Doesn't make it excusable though, and I presume even if the letter is drafted by admin staff, it still has to be signed by a manager.nth london addick said:Who would've done that I am sure it would have been some poor admin person on a shit wage

That's a fair point NLA and I'm far from the sort of person who immediately looks to blame someone for a genuine mistake but we are dealing with a relatively small organisation in the scheme of things, not some faceless huge corporation. I'm very confident it would have been signed off by someone who knew who Paddy was and damn sure they knew he wasn't Chrissy.Kap10 said:

All people cock up. I cock up from time to time. It's human nature but I'm pretty sure if I were issuing someone with a redundancy notice I'd get their name right as a matter of respect if nothing else.
Plus Paddy was one of my favourite all time players growing up so I'm not in a forgiving mood... :-/

Accidents happen but something as important as a resignation should be signed off by someone senior. When I say signed off I mean checked before signing. Anything that important I read and check over and over again. That's really poor form if trueMrLargo said:

It's hardly like there is a huge number of people on the payroll at Charlton, so there's not really a lot of scope for confusion.MrLargo said:

Regardless of the wage of the person responsible, people in HR are paid to get the details right - particularly when it comes to the sensitivities of redundancies and the like.
Hardly the kind of actions befitting a club that's (in it's own words) a "famous South London organisation".2 -

Good luck Colin, one of my favourite players of the 1970's and all round good guy. You deserve a lot, lot better than this.0

Good luck and good health Paddy - a real Charlton legend.
He even gets a quote from the Chairman which is about as rare as rocking horse shit at the moment.1 -
I'm sad when anyone has left Charlton that has put in a good stint but I have never been sadder than to see my favourite ever Charlton person leave today. Good luck Colin.5

Posted this on the Richard Murray thread, having also suggested further up this thread that they should put an article about Powell on the website:
We now have an article about Powell on the website which includes a quote from Richard Murray! Will shortly be starting a new thread in which we question why the Charlton website doesn't have more topless pictures of Jennifer Lopez.MrLargo said:
I believe he was quoted following Powell's sacking as saying he'll be back at the club one day. Might have been at a supporters' club event. Generally speaking though, he's been deadly silent (roughly in line with the club's standard policy at the moment). The Red Robin said:Where is Richard Murray? He said he was going to be the voice of the club in his interview with RD and Katrien. That was in December / January. Have we heard from him through official club channels since?
Perhaps if we all spend the day moaning on here that we've not heard from him for ages then we'll get an interview on the club website tomorrow. That seems to be how it works these days.7 -

When the club made my Dad redundant they put his name on the website without his permission and only took it down when he phoned them to complain.

bet it was RDs fault not even 3,00 turned up to his testimonial against the mighty Inverness0

Nice article, at least they got that bit right. I note it says "he is leaving" rather than "he has retired".Ross said:0 -
A real well up moment for me last season was after the dramatic last minute winner against QPR and SCP and Paddy hugged it out at the final whistle #emotionaltimes1

Paddy needs a thanks thread of his own at the top of this site
I for one think that he delivered us some wonderful playing surfaces
He was a true committed addick when he played
As NSS jr would say
Paddy is proper Charlton
Put your feet up paddy

Glad the club have put that on the OS. Good luck and thank you paddy. Would be nice if he could make a pitch appearance before our next home game. He deserves that applause.1

Paul Ellis has been made redundant. Bradshaw going on July 31st, apparently.0
