Only in Britain. In any other country he would be a national hero. We do love a glorious loser!

I mean, he's by most accounts a really pleasant and personable man. Plenty of absolute bastards in sport. One facetious quote, amplified by a gutless and drama-hungry media, and he's won CL's enmity? You're an impressionable lot.
  • So more people dislike our most successful tennis player since God was a boy than a bloke who shot his missus and a drugs cheat. Utter madness.

I mean there is always a little gang on here that will grab an opportunity to slag off Andy Murray. And the thread was started to give them another outlet, just like every year come Tennis season. That's what I mean by that.

Unfortunately some people prefer personality over success. Murray isn't nasty or a bad role model or a cheat and he has worked incredibly hard from a young age to be a world class sportsman.

He's clearly uncomfortable in the spotlight and doesn't much wish for media attention. For this he is considered miserable, grumpy and aloof.

He made a throwaway comment about the England football team that gave the haters more ammunition.

I know this was a bit of fun and is hardly a groundbreaking survey but he is some people's most hated sportsman.

    Really?

Really World Class only 2 major wins, someone World class would of won more than that after being a pro 9 nines
ATM ranked world number 8, not really World Class IMO

I'm not being funny, but how into tennis are you ? Murray is definitely world class, this is probably the most competitor era in men's tennis' modern history. To have two slams, along with many other tournament wins and finals as well as an Olympic gold in this era is pretty incredible.

I'd consider being eighth in the world at something having previously been as high as number two as world class. An Olympic gold medal winner is a pretty sure sign too.

Bit like saying we've had no world class footballers apart from in 1966.

Not world-class? Are you completely insane?

Andy Murray is Olympic Champion and has won two Grand Slams and multiple grand Slam runners-up in the most competitive era for decades - and people 'hate' him for a stupid joke about a football team.

Andy Murray saw his school friends slaughtered in the Dunblane Massacre when he was a kid and with the help of his family - with no help from the plummy voiced wankers at the LTA- put the work in to get to the top.

He has never punched or head-butted anyone, disgraced himself in public, complained about the tax he pays or shagged someone else's wife and has only ever competed for himself and his country with total distinction - and yet still they hate.

    What a shower of moronic hate-filled c--ts.

Why do people get so agitated about an OPINION poll? He wasn't in my 5 but people are entitled to their opinions. It's only a straw poll, not the friggin Nobel Peace Prize ffs.

Well I voted and I am moaning about the result. We get a British Wimbledon winner which I personally never believed I would see in my lifetime and he comes out as a hated character. Sad to say but you only seem to get this jealousy driven hate from football forums (probably driven by 1 irrelevant comment).

    It's a bit of fun.

Some people take things too seriously and make themselves the arbiter of everything. People moaning about others choices whether it be this, best/worse films etc. it is meant to be something to take us away from the doom and gloom/exciting future around our club and to pass away the off season. So what if 10 people out of thousands who visit the site dislike someone more than others. Am sure Murray will not read this thread and turn into gibbering wreck unable to pick up a racket again.

Now, what does everyone thing about Maggie Thatcher...?

Watched some of the French and Murray showed great sportsmanship at times conceding points when he didn't have to. Was well beaten by the virtually unplayable Nadal but is still absolute quality. I used to be in the dislike brigade but not for a while now.

Same here - it wasn't the England football comment, he was grumpy and unlikeable.

But as he's grown up he's grown on me.
