I'm don't believe this will happen, but I was told on Saturday that he would be signing for Leeds (!). His brother is at uni there, so that works for him, and it's not far south of his dad either. My problem with this info is that after their recent takeover, what sort of signing on fee could they pay him or promises on the future could they make? Not a lot IMO...so it's probably just another unjustified rumour.

You were probably told that due to his twitter when he said he drove back from Leeds, I doubt he's going there

I thinks its unlikely he will go to Leeds but remember as well as his brother being there at Uni Gus was Dennis Wise's Assistant Manager at Elland Road.

  • Diego must be pissing himself.

He just needs to write something like 'just driving back from norwich'. Then switch on his social media and watch the waves it causes.

Dammit he's off to Norwich :(
  • He would be a massive loss without doubt the best midfielder at the club is he.prem ready yet I don't think he would be able to move to a club that he in a yr or 2 deserve to be at yet

He would benefit more staying here than anywhere else and if it's not money motivation then he should stay

    And leave next season

Example, Tom Ince, looked like he could walk into any prem sides first team whilst at Blackpool and just be a success.

Didn't really set the world alight whilst on loan at Palace in arguably there best spell.

Dont think we have the capability to offer him a more attractive contract then the likes of Barcelona etc.
He is a very good young player and will most likely go if a big club flashes alot of money his way

If he is off then Arsenal could be a sensible move. At least he has a chance of game time there. If Jenkinson can get a game then I'm sure Diego can. They really are Woolwich Rejects.

Not being funny, but if a big club had offered him a decent wage, Im pretty sure he would of been signed up, not waiting for Charltons counter offer.

Personally, I think he is holding out for as much as possible...-and will re-sign when his agent believes they've squeezed RD to the max

I think at least if he goes to arsenal we stand a good chance of getting the £400k we would be entitled too as he is under 21 , looking back at jenkinsons move we got £1m where they didn't have to pay us that

Jonjo had the good grace to sign a deal with Charlton to ensure we got a fee for him. Diego is out of contract so any compensation will be 400k providing he goes to and English club.

This would be disappointing considering RD talked of not letting young talent go on the cheap. I appreciate there was a lot going on at the time of the takeover, but securing his signature would have been a sensible business decision. I understand he's destined for a better club, just want what he's worth as a transfer fee. Should've moved heaven and earth to get him signed up.....

I heard Jenkinson threatened to sign a new contract with us unless Arsenal paid Charlton a more appropriate fee.

I heard that but he was out of contract at the time.
  • If he goes I hope we can get him back on a season long loan. That might be the best outcome for all concerned.

My mistake, I thought they bought him rather than his contract run out.

Was talking to a mate at work who is an Arsenal season ticket holder and I mentioned they had been linked to Diego. His comment was, 'who's he'.....blank look.....'we don't want any more dross from Charlton after Jenkinson.....'do we have a link up with you.'

Stay at CAFC where with no news you get 800 odd posts, go to Arsenal and make up the numbers, you know what makes sense DP!

Jenkinson most Charlton fans knew nothing of and he's been chucked in the deep end playing Prem League and Champs League!! Diego has been playing consistently (well) and constantly for us, different ball park them two signings. Wouldn't matter what the fans thought of him when signed anyway, just whether Wenger saw him in his plans. Would actually fit well there imo if he could break into the first team, big jump, I know .. but his game isn't a risky one that involves skinning players or scoring, just breaking up play and keeping it calm.

Arsenal makes sense as a holding mid. Arteta is getting on. Hate to see it though

Someone go to the Sunderland sites comments about Jack Colback regarding his transfer to Newcastle. It is frightening because it's exactly the same as us!

Ah, yes Sunderland - it leaves a bitter taste doesn't it? Hypocrisy of the highest order: it seems they have no recollection of the manipulation of the fee for Michael Turner which diminished the value of the sell-on clause for CAFC then? I'm so upset for them.....

Did I miss something?? why would we have still got something for him if he went to Hull from Brentford before Sunderland?

To be fair, admin usually do amend the thread title when stories develop.
Something along the lines of "EDIT: signs for arsenal page 31"
