    I think it was an error not taking Shelvey. I wouldn't start him but see him as a player who can affect games. I don't think international managers thake thi saspect into sufficient account - the attributes you have on teh bench need to be different to the team in some cases.

    billy bonds or richard rufus

    Bonds shd have played for england a lot more

    Rufus deserved recognition but didnt get it

    Solly as I genuinely think before his injury he was the best english right back.

    Sadly @sadiejane1981 I'm old but young at heart :-) and the question was 'which past Charlton player would you love to see playing for England on Saturday?

    Answer, Mike Bailey one of my childhood heroes, so you have to use your imagination that he would be transported Star Trek style into 2014 for his third cap v Italy instead of Henderson or Milner if selected, hence no zimmer frame required :-)

    Unfortunately Bonzo never played for England he was an unused sub per Wiki;
    'Bonds was capped twice at England Under-23 international level and was on the bench as a non-playing substitute for the senior international team for a World Cup qualifying match against Italy in November 1977.'

    Not wishing to upset the John Humphrey admirers, who incidentally was also a favourite of mine, Bonds was better IMO.

    Richard Rufus. How he never played for England is a mystery.

    Chris Solly on that pitch on Saturday. He would be used to it and we could do with a proper right back.

    Bit of an unfair question and nobody knows for sure - but what do you think might have happened if Shelvey stayed with us another season, then went to a team like Swansea - I suspect he would just have been bought by a team like Liverpool and be in the World Cup squad. I think going to the big club too early isn't always the best!

    I love to watch players that can genuinely change a game and isn't aren't to make a mistake developing their game - and I think Shelvey is that sort of player and will be one of the first names on the teamsheet by the Euros.
