Diego Poyet's contract situation **DieGONE - Signs for West Ham)**

  • He thanked @CAFCofficial for 8 great years. I haven't seen any other statement from him.

But he was being called a liar, greedy etc before the "Someone met him at a party and said...." story came out.

The money we get is a development fee for a U24. We got Moussa on a free transfer as he was out of contract. No compensation even though Coventry could really use it.
@diegopoyet7: @cafc_mad I will post the truth when I sign with a new club. Do not want to jeopardise myself before then.

I know what he said before and he should have left it there. He chose not to...

And if he can't deal with being called greedy he is in the wrong profession. ;)

Moussa is more in line with Dervite/Hamer leaving. I'm not calling for compensation there as those are different situations.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this one.

  • It is not the same.

If you have not been trained at a club, the circumstances are different.

Poyet has signed for West Ham, he can be expected by them to aim to do his best for them and in return they pay him as agreed, at the end of the contract, if nothing further is agreed the player and the club can part ways without ill feeling.

Poyet was trained by us. He is entitled to leave but we should be compensated appropriately for this training.

The way you feel about us, that's the way I feel when reading the posts on there...

Can you expand on that please Algarve, but without understanding what you mean, i sense its a dig

And we will be compensated. Whether it is appropriately I doubt but as I said that is the system not Poyet.

    appropriately being the operative word.

  • Interesting that our very recent Player of the Year, has for some become a lad that we really didn't rate or need. I am surprised it's West Ham, do you think that playing up the road from us soon has something to do with it ? It might not be long before he will be looking up at us in the Premiership !
  • Had to be West Ham. I bloody hate them. If I had the cash I would buy them and close them down.

Maybe a good move for DP in terms of size of club although with big Sam in charge he will have to get used to watching the ball fly over his head more often than not.
  • I feel let down by DP but I shouldn't as I support the notion that each one of us will do the best we can for ourselves and our family.

I wish he had signed a new contract with a buy out clause and given us a season before moving on, but he hasn't and I wish him luck at Wetspam, at least it isn't Palarse. If I blame anyone it is the previous owners for not offering an acceptable contract a year ago.

Good luck Diego and let us at The Valley draw a line under him and look forward to our new midfield where another Academy product will shine, that being jordan Cousins.

Surely the 5 year deal is good for our compensation?

You said: "I feel like i'm becoming further and further out of touch with fellow CAFC supporters, and this episode just underlines that."

When I read the posts on the Charlton page on Facebook, I feel exactly the same, only coming from the other direction.

You despair at those of us that think Poyet has done us wrong, I despair at those of you who think he is completely in the right.

No dig, just a different viewpoint.

EDIT: Also a lot of them think the new third kit is marvellous, which doesn't help either... ;-)

    I didn't vote for him, didn't even make my top 5 :p
  • The difference with Mousa is that RD was able to offer him a decent alternative which would have made him a better footballer by taking part, this season, in UCL and Europa league football, and would have in turn allowed
us to get a decent return on our investment.

But no. I want my money and I want it now. That's all it's about.

I bet he starts less than 10 league games there. I reckon lucky to get 5.

Thing is Prague, he could have signed for us next season and met the latest Muscat incarnation. Liverpool or Arsenal would have pleased me more, but it's his career and I imagine he had Premiership options and seems to have settled for one that will continue his development - which really is the opposite to what Parker did.

I'm with AFKA on this, I think he's been pretty sensible. I just hope he doesn't tarnish it with any explanation of 'his truth', because it would be both unnecessary and entirely irrelevant now.
  • And we will be compensated. Whether it is appropriately I doubt but as I said that is the system not Poyet.

The way around the system would have been to sign a new contract with a reasonable get out clause. As far as we know Poyet chose not to do that. If it comes out that he was happy to do so, but the club wanted £10m then I shall feel differently.

Spot on Algarve. I still think Diego acted very selfishly and could easily have left in a better way for the benefit of the club that nurtured him. I think he has acted with a callous disregard for Charlton and us fans.

Don't have a particularly strong opinion on him going to West Ham.

What I have an issue with is the spin and nonsense being banded round which is trying to portray him as a good guy and some sort of victim.

As opposed to the spin that is making him out to be a useless player, greedy, a liar and disrespectful to Charlton fans.

haven't seen anyone on here claim he is a victim.

I have read a lot people moaning that we won't get enough money from the sale in the same breath that they complain he is greedy and only interested in money. And not one of them seeing the contradiction.
  • Let's hope Fat Sam don't get sacked at any stage - wouldn't want to see DP crying again.

  • He's gone, good luck to him. It was his choice and he's decided to try a higher league.

Everyone moaning about us not getting any money but we've signed Moussa in a similar situation and I don't hear anyone suggesting we give Coventry a handout.

Moussa wasn't a youth team player at Coventry which makes a hell of a lot of difference.
  • Its the same situation that their contracts had ended and they could choose where to go. Diego chose to leave get over it.

I'm not saying anyone on here has portrayed him as a victim.

Perhaps I could have worded it better. I meant that it feels like he himself is trying to portray himself as a victim.
  • Why the hell didn't he just sign for WHU's Academy as a nine year old and be done with it? Would have saved us a lot of grief all round...both now and in the future, no doubt, when it is frequently mentioned that he is a product of their youth team.

Does feel a bit like Charlton have just been used "as a convenience" by the Poyet family.

if we don't agree a fee, then hopefully the fact that he's well known as a rising star and has been in a TV commercial will increase the tribunal price

Im over it. In fact, the fact we get money is a bonus.

Im just pointing out its not the same situation. The same would be Moussa and Dervite/Hamer.

People have got their back-up because we gave Poyet a lot of time in nurturing him into a professional footballer. Some fans feel that 400k and a thank you isn't enough. Personally, I'm only pissed off that he's signed for West Ham.

Wellingtentioned explained to you why it's not iaitch. Saying the same thing again isn't really a counter argument.
