    I love guilty pleasures .

    My love of them probably stopped me contributing to the solo artist thread as I did not want to have loads of LOL's with my love of the likes of David Essex and Leo Sayer. They don't feature here but surprisingly David Bowie Charlton Life's favourite Solo artist features and underrated singer songwriter Albert Hammond sings one but co wrote three of them.

    I liked some trashy disco bands in the 1980s, even bought an album by Dollar, and got heavily into Shakatak. Actually went to see them play live, in the chicken-in-a-basket environment of the Talk of the Town in Birmingham. A bloody good night out.

    I must also confess to buying Kajagoogoo's sole album. Are Level 42 still derided? Great rhythm section of Mark King and Boon Gould.

    Is 'Wichita Lineman' a guilty pleasure? Too good for that, surely...

    Trying to avoid the ones people have already mentioned, although there are some crackers up there. Most of mine are because of the associations that the songs have for me, more than anything else

    which reminds me of student club nights, when the DJ would introduce it as "and here's 'No Lyrics' by Too Untalented". It will always make me smile just because of that.

    It's a long story involving one of my friends from university, copious amounts of alcohol, and a wedding DJ with excellent comic timing. As soon as the intro starts, I'm grinning and cringeing in equal measures.

    I'm not musical enough to really put this into words, but many of these songs are... how do I phrase this... in a minor key I guess. 80s songs in a minor key have a real tension to them. I don't know how else to describe it.


    Also, Wichita Lineman has no guilty connotations for me. Got a great REM version somewhere.
